You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

2 Timothy 3:14

http://www.dailybiblestudy.org

14 But [de] continue [meno] thou [su] in [en] the things which [hos] thou hast learned [manthano] and [kai] hast been assured of, [pistoo] knowing [eido] of [para] whom [tis] thou hast learned [manthano] them;KJV-Interlinear

14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them; NASB

Continue means to keep on. It is a command to keep doing what you have been doing.

Learned means intentional learning, to pursue, to strongly desire.

Become convinced and assured, means that which cannot be compromised, cannot be diluted, that which cannot be changed out of habit or convenience or debate. Namely convinced in truth.

Knowing, means with certainty, with authenticity, and not from hearsay or invented sources.

And whom, is a reference to the legitimate sources of doctrine from which you learn that doctrine.

The overall topic of 2 Timothy, is 'sound doctrine.'

There is far too much false doctrine out there in the world. Much of which runs very close to truth, but is twisted even just a little bit, making it false. There is much too much false doctrine out there, which can be easily used to convince that it is legitimate, because it just seems right or ok, or reasonable, or of no harm to anyone.

And so Paul is reminding us all, that we need to keep our guard up, that we need to keep on learning, that we need to keep on learning from legitimate sources of doctrine. And we need to keep on learning doctrine because that is the ultimate source of knowledge and wisdom, and advancement in our spiritual life.

And in contrast to this, are the efforts that people put into emotional or works approaches to their spiritual lives, or compromised approaches to their spiritual lives, or invented approaches to their spiritual lives. And certainly eliminating all things that elevate ones sins or sin nature, or human good approaches, or elevates the things that people really want in life, and thus making them a higher priority than the mundane task of studying and learning.

And all too often the idea of studying and learning and growing up, due to that process, is uninteresting and not fun and boring, because it does not excite the emotions, does not entertain, does not impress, and quite frankly takes too long.

So people naturally gravitate to the quick and the enticements and the popular approaches to what they believe is a more open experience with God, because doing something gives one a greater sensation of accomplishment, than just reading and learning in an academic setting.

And unfortunately when the legitimate learning process of a daily study is ignored, and replaced with something else, then the end result of error is not generally discovered until it is too late in ones life, if it is discovered at all.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
