Heb. 2:16 16 For [gar] verily [depou] he took [epilambanomai] not [ou] on [epilambanomai] him the nature of angels [aggelos]; but [alla] he took on [epilambanomai] him the seed [sperma] of Abraham [Abraam]. KJV-Interlinear 16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. NASB There was a time when all of the angels sang together. They were a happy lot. There was no sin, no competition against God, no difficulties whatsoever. Job 38:4-7 4 'Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding, 5 Who set its measurements, since you know? Or who stretched the line on it? 6 'On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy? NASB But then something happened. Lucifer, who was the greatest of all of the angels became arrogant and led a rebellion against God. Isa. 14:12-14 12 'How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.' NASB All angels were responsible to God, but they all fell from grace. Ezek. 28:12-19 12 'Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, 'You had the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 'You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The ruby, the topaz, and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx, and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise, and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you. On the day that you were created They were prepared. 14 'You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 'You were blameless in your ways From the day you were created, Until unrighteousness was found in you. NASB Somewhere along the line angels were judged. Those who did not accept whatever offer God made to them, were judged to the Lake of Fire. Matt. 25:41-42 41 'Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; NASB We know that one-third of all the angels followed Lucifer, whom we now call Satan or the Devil, but what of the rest of the angels. Something happened to them as well. Job 4:18 18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: All of the angels had their doubts with regard to what was going on in that ancient history of angels past. They all made conscious decisions which classified them as untrustworthy by God. The angels had the universe and God, all to themselves, but they lost it all. And now, mankind comes onto the scene with a demonstration by God to angels, that He can create a lower creature, and elevate them to the highest positions in all of the universe. God did not assume the form of an angel so as to identify with them. He assumed the form of man in order to identify with humanity, and raise mankind to the positions which the angels once held. Man will rule in eternity, not angels. Whatever the circumstances of the angels history was back then, they had their chance and apparently blew it, such that God had to bring man into history to demonstrate His perfect wisdom. With angel history virtually over, with the exception of the execution of the final sentencing for those who remain defiant, it is now mans history, and for man, God became lower than the angels in order to bring identification of Him, to us, in His work on the Cross. One more added note on this subject. God did not assume the form of an animal, fish, bird, or some other inanimate object on which we were to focus our attention. There is only one object of worship and that is God through Jesus Christ by means of the Spirit with the common thread of doctrine bringing our spiritual existence together.
