Heb. 4:8-10

8 For [gar] if [ei] Jesus [Iesous] had given [katapauo] them [autos] rest [katapauo], then would he [an] not [ou] afterward [meta] [tauta] have spoken [laleo] of [peri] another [allos] day [hemera].
9 There remaineth [apoleipo] therefore [ara] a rest [sabbatismos] to the people [laos] of God [theos].
10 For [gar] he that is entered [eiserchomai] into [eis] his [autos] rest [katapausis], he [autos] also [kai] hath ceased [katapauo] from [apo] his own [autos] works [ergon], as [hosper] God [theos] did from [apo] his [idios]. KJV-Interlinear

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. NASB

If Gods rest referred to the geographical land of Canaan, then the Israelites would have remained there from the time of Joshua until now. But Gods rest is not a physical rest but a spiritual rest. The spiritual rest is the rest that we will receive and hold on to permanently, in eternity.

The physical side of life is this life on planet earth, in these physical bodies. The spiritual side of life is the life we will have with a relationship with God and that ultimate life and rest will come in the next life, in eternity.

This life is a shadow of the next. What is important in this life is not what or who you are, nor what you have, nor what you accomplish in this life. Neither is it a summary of your failures. This life is here for you to advance in your spiritual life. What you think is what you are. Not what you do or what you achieve.

Some folks work hard and get far in life. Some folks work hard and get nowhere. Some don't work and they have varying results in life. We are not here to accomplish our entire life and happiness in the things of this life. We are here to advance in our spiritual lives to the point of spiritual maturity such that we will be prepared for the great blessings of the next life.

If rest were to come through Moses or Joshua, then history would have come to an end, but it didn't. History continues so that all positive people, who will be born throughout history up and until the last generation of human history, will have their chance to grow up spiritually.

That is really the only reason that any of us are still here. Simultaneously, God will bring all of the nations (in opposition to Him) together in one last and final battle resulting in their obliteration. Then the burdens caused by the nations throughout history will finally disappear from the daily life of humanity. Those burdens include, social pressures, tax pressures, regulatory pressures, political pressures, peer pressures, business pressures, daily life pressures, and so forth.

In the mean time, we have the Sabbath. Or back then, that was the day set aside for rest and to be a reminder of the real rest that God will give to all believers in eternity. Mature believers have considerably more. Now since the cross, we no longer recognize the Sabbath (Saturday), but we recognize the resurrection of Christ and His victory being the first of the first fruits (the first to be resurrected), so we celebrate the reality of our rest on Sunday. That is our day of reminder, of our opportunity and obligation to Go and our spiritual life.

Saturday was the promise and Sunday is the fulfillment. We recognize the fulfillment because that is the result of Christ's work which we recognize and celebrate. To recognize Saturday would be a rejection of Christ's accomplishment on the Cross. We now have a new Sabbath which is now on Sunday.

In either case, the day of the week is of no importance, because we take Gods work one step further and we celebrate the Sabbath perpetually every moment of the day and night through our fellowship function of maintaining a perpetual relationship with God from within our soul by maintaining fellowship with Him.

Therefore one who has entered into Gods rest (salvation) is rested from the works of the world in trying to obtain salvation by some other means. One who has entered into Gods rest (spiritual growth to maturity) is rested from the burdens of this world with respect to their mental outlook on life (relief from nervousness, tenseness, and other physical and mental problems which are by-products of His rest, in this life). Finally, one who has entered into Gods rest, the ultimate rest which becomes a reality in eternity, will have the greatest destiny forever and ever.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
