Heb. 6:13-15

13 For [gar] when God [theos] made promise [epaggello] to Abraham [Abraam], because [epei] he could [echo] swear [omnuo] by [kata] no [oudeis] greater [meizon], he sware [omnuo] by [kata] himself [heautou],
14 Saying [lego], Surely [e] [men] blessing [eulogeo] I will bless [eulogeo] thee [se], and [kai] multiplying [plethuno] I will multiply [plethuno] thee [se].
15 And [kai] so [houto], after he had patiently endured [makrothumeo], he obtained [epitugchano] the promise [epaggelia]. KJV-Interlinear

13 For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, 'I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply you.' 15 And thus, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise. NASB

A promise is a statement that you will or will not do something. No one can make a legitimate promise unless they are capable of following through with their commitment.

God of course is capable of doing anything He says He will do. Man is not capable of that. Even the simple promise of calling someone on the phone tomorrow is beyond the capability of the person.

Though this is a simple promise, we presume that we will be alive and capable of making the call. Now most of us wouldn't think anything of this simple promise. We probably make these kinds of promises all of the time, even without thinking about them.

But if someone who was in a lot of pain, perhaps on their death bed, asked you to promise them that everything will be all right, then you are probably putting yourself in a corner. You know that you cannot make things right, but out of courtesy you promise because you will make them feel better, at least for the moment.

Gods promises are not of this type. When God makes a promise, then He will follow through with them. God has the resources, He has the power, and He has the will to perform His promises. This too is not in question by most folks. Most folks have the opinion that God can do what He wants to do. Even unbelievers who reject Christ but look to some other form of divine, believe that their god is capable of doing anything.

The real problem arises when folks don't see the results they want and so they begin to question Gods intent. They gauge Gods actions on their own expectations. They gauge Gods actions based on the content of their soul, and that content is lacking in the proper perspective of divine viewpoint, so they jump to conclusions that are incorrect.

Abraham had to wait one hundred years before he got his son from Sarah, the promised son. He had a lot of ups and downs in his own faith. He made a lot of mistakes along the way, and all of his mistakes delayed the fulfillment of the promise, but finally he came around and believed the promise. He received it.

Learn by this example. We all know of God. We all have an idea of His powers. But how many really believe in His wisdom? How many really believe in Gods promises.

The real proof comes when we are confronted by a problem. Do we suck it up and get through the problem, trusting in God, or do we fall apart and go into a tantrum and begin to blame everyone including God.

Most folks fail in this test of life. Life can hit us from many angles. There are primarily four areas of testing which we will face throughout our life.

The first is from our own thinking. If our thinking is off, then our mental attitude and mental stability will fail more often than not. You become angry, frustrated, depressed with life and so forth.

The second area of testing comes from people. Family will be your first test. Friends and neighbors will follow along close to family. Work related people will be on your testing plate, then strangers. At some point all people around the world can affect your life as world events often times have an impact on the entire planet. World War two is just one example.

The third area of testing comes from bureaucracies. If you have been born alive in this world, then you have or will face the red tape of bureaucracies. This can be dealings with governments (federal, state, or local). This can be dealings with businesses or other organizations. This type of testing can come from social clubs or office politics. Granted all of this comes back to people but bureaucracies give people an invented curtain of rules or politics to hide behind. 'That's the law. That's our policy. That's too bad.'

The fourth area in which you will be tested in life is natural disaster or your environment. This can include anything from storms, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, to physical ailments. You might be handicapped or just be down with a cold.

In all of these areas which affect all of our lives, our expectations are ultimately put on trial. Do we have proper expectations from life or do we have unreasonable expectations from life?

If you have Bible doctrine in your soul then you are far better off when dealing with problems whether the problem is burnt toast or being permanently paralyzed from your eyeballs down.

If you lack Bible doctrine in the soul, then you will have more difficulty in dealing with the problems which you will face in life.

Note, we will all face problems in life. More often it will be arguments or disagreements with others, but your washer will break, your car will break, anything you have will need replacing or repair sooner or later. Nothing in life is permanent. Nothing!

God makes promises. He has promised us all a great life both now and in eternity. Our eternal life will be infinitely greater than this life. That should be obvious. But in order to get those promises, you have to be obedient to Gods mandates. That part is not difficult if you conduct yourself in a daily Bible study everyday for the rest of your life.

The biggest problem? People do not obey Gods mandates, and they expect a lot out of life, but they do not want to be responsible for the way they think or act in life. They want things their way - without God. But it is God who provides for everything, so the problem arises. People want the results but reject the provider.

God makes promises. God is able to fulfill those promises. We have only to believe in His intentions, learn His wisdom, and wait patiently.
