Heb. 7:28

28 For [gar] the law [nomos] maketh [kathistemi] men [anthropos] high priests [archiereus] which have [echo] infirmity [astheneia]; but [de] the word [logos] of the oath [horkomosia], which [ho] was since [meta] the law [nomos], maketh the Son [huios], who is consecrated [teleioo] for [eis] evermore [aion]. KJV-Interlinear

28 For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever. NASB

The Law, the Levitical Law, speaks of sin and death. It speaks of mans inability to do for himself, that which is necessary to get mankind out of the pit of sin and death and back into the presence of God.

The Law speaks of mans weaknesses, and it is that same law which appoints men as priests. Priests who can only teach the principle of mans weakness, not solve it.

When the high priest served, he wore an ephod and breast plate. The ephod was an elaborate garment which had two onyx stones on it. Each stone was inscribed with six of the names of the tribes of Israel. The breast plate was attached to the ephod by gold chains. And on the breast plate were placed twelve precious stones representing the names of the twelve tribes.

The symbolism of this is that when the High Priest served in the Tabernacle, he brought with him the entire nation of Israel. The breast plate covered his heart representing Gods love and on his shoulders the whole garment hung representing Gods strength.

The high priest could only symbolize these things. However Jesus Christ does not need an ephod, nor a breast plate. He has each of our names written on His heart. He knows each one of us personally by name. He likewise has the strength to carry all believers throughout history, and by doing so, protects us forever.

Gods policy has existed since eternity past. The Law came at the time of Moses, and the oath was revealed to David nearly five hundred years later. That oath became a reality when after the cross, Jesus Christ arose and was seated at the right hand of the Father. No other person has been able to accomplish that. No other person will be able to accomplish that.

The law points out mans weaknesses. The oath points out Gods strength. Gods oath is far superior to mans intentions.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
