Heb. 9:1

1 Then [oun] verily [men] the first [protos] covenant had [echo] also [kai] ordinances [dikaioma] of divine service [latreia], and [te] a worldly [kosmikos] sanctuary [hagion]. KJV-Interlinear

1 Now even the first covenant had regulations of divine worship and the earthly sanctuary. NASB

A great deal of the Bible is dedicated to convincing you that your best life and future can be found in Gods plan for your life.

Not only that, but God provides you with all of the resources to insure your life and future.

Most folks know of angels, or they have an idea regarding angels. Most folks know of high ranking people in governments or in the church organizations, or even in business organizations. These are people of notoriety or status, to whom society looks up to. Most folks know of people who hold positions or rank or ability in society, such as celebrities. We have all heard of Satan or the Devil and we have ideas or imaginations of his powers. Cartoons and video games are filled with super hero's and villains who clash and of course the victory goes to the hero.

But the Bible points out that even though we can use our imagination to paint a picture of our hero or role model, there is a far better hero who is not a figment of our imagination and wishes.

He is very real, and He holds the power of the universe in His thoughts. He is neither cruel nor deceitful. But He is very wise and very concerned about our welfare. He is of course Jesus Christ.

Society looks to celebrities of music and Hollywood, or even celebrities in politics or organizations, or sports who weld abilities or power and wealth that impress us. Often times we look to these hero's as our role models. All of them can do nothing for our life in general and certainly they can do nothing to resolve our ultimate problems in life - sin and death. No one on this earth can insure or guarantee your life today let alone your future.

Although humans have certain abilities, people with high positions can provide greater opportunities if you run in the right circles. Although there are humans with great position and power, there are creatures, angels, who have far greater position and power and abilities than any human being on our planet. And even though there are angels with great power and ability, there is one person who possesses the ultimate power and authority of all of heaven and the universe combined.

It is that person, Jesus Christ who is on our side and will assist us in achieving our greatest possible destiny - if ..... we comply with His mandates for the spiritual life.

God established the first covenant. He did not do it frivolously. Although that first covenant could not solve mans problems, its provision was not a waste of time.

Man has to be taught that his life is in danger. We who are born into his world have a destiny. When God created life, He made it, forever life. Even after death our life continues on forever. The question is where will we live that forever life? There are but two possibilities - heaven or the Lake of Fire. There is no third possibility.

We are not on this earth to live here forever. We are only here temporarily in order to prepare ourselves for eternity. Man was not placed on this earth to solve his own problems. Man can't do that.

The chief obstacle of the Old testament faith was the failure to see that everything connected with the ceremonial laws of the Levitical Priesthood (covenant, sacrifices, priesthood, feasts, and ritual) was merely temporary. It existed only until the real Savior came into history to fulfill the principles they taught.

It had rules for worship. It even had a sanctuary called a Tabernacle. The rules all pointed to the occupant of that sanctuary - God. The rules and rituals all pointed to the path to God - the sacrifices and the doctrine.

All of the components of the Levitical temple and tabernacle had but one common target - the Savior, the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The most common of the rituals were the sacrifices and offerings. Both taught the principle of the Saviors role in our salvation and of our responsibility in our spiritual life.

The old covenant was never intended to be the cornerstone of our relationship with God. Its role was to teach the principles of our relationship with God. Just because it did not cure man's ailments does not mean that it was not important in human history.

The Levitical code was an important mechanism in teaching the principles of the Savior's role and the principles of our spiritual life. Unfortunately the picture it painted was viewed for many centuries and when that real Savior came into History, mankind did not recognize Him because they were so tied to the picture of the Levitical ordinances.

For anyone tied to old or even modern day rituals and church doctrine, it is important to know and understand how they relate to the reality of Christ and Gods Word. Only then can you begin to pull away from an obsession with church policies and begin to recognize the real principles which God wants you to learn and follow.

Church rituals are a good thing if their role is to teach Gods principles, but when they become the rule for regulating your life, then they have lost their role and have become a distraction and impediment to your spiritual growth. And that is a very bad thing.

Living a decent, honest life is does not produce the spiritual life, it is a result of having a spiritual life.
