Heb. 9:11

11 But [de] Christ [Christos] being come [paraginomai] an high priest [archiereus] of good things [agathos] to come [mello], by [dia] a greater [meizon] and [kai] more perfect [teleios] tabernacle [skene], not [ou] made with hands [cheiropoietos], that is to say [toutesti], not [ou] of this [taute] building [ktisis]; KJV-Interlinear

11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; NASB

In the last verse we are told that the earthly tabernacle and temple were merely symbols. The word used for symbol, or figure, was 'parabole' or parable. We know that a parable is a story or teaching device which used real world activities or objects in order to teach a spiritual lesson. So the whole Levitical concept was nothing more than a teaching aid for teaching spiritual principles. It was never intended to be the real and permanent mechanism for bringing mankind to God.

Now we have seen many of the comparisons between the old and new covenants. The new is far superior to the old because it accomplishes all that it intends to do. Namely, salvation and forgiveness. Together these restore us to God directly.

The old covenant had a tabernacle which was nothing more than a tent initially, and then it was made of wood and stone and such earthly materials. It was limited in its size. All of mankind in all of history could never fit into it at the same time. And of course it was subject to deterioration and destruction. Where are they now? Destroyed. They don't exist in our current day.

The new priest is a heavenly high priest who not only has eternal life but is eternal life.

He resides in a sanctuary which is infinite in size. His sanctuary is not only in heaven, but it is heaven. Jesus Christ is both a priest and a king and His rule is from the same place - heaven.

Heaven is His dwelling place, His throne, and His sanctuary. His sanctuary and His palace are one and the same.

Acts 7:49
49 'Heaven is My throne,' NASB

The priests only, could enter into the outer room and the high priest only, could enter into the inner room. They could not take anyone with them.

Christ, on the other hand, will take all who believe in Him, into heaven with Him and we will all be in the presence of the Father. Something that no one in all of history has ever accomplished.

Eph. 2:6
6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, NASB

Phil. 3:20
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, NASB

Therefore, our real home in not on planet earth, it is in heaven.
