Heb. 13:18-19

18 Pray [proseuchomai] for [peri] us [hemon]: for [gar] [hoti] we trust [peitho] we have [echo] a good [kalos] conscience [suneidesis], in [en] all things [pas] willing [thelo] to live [anastrepho] honestly [kalos].

19 But [de] I beseech [parakaleo] you the rather [perissoteros] to do [poieo] this [touto], that [hina] I may be restored [apokathistemi] to you [humin] the sooner [tachion]. KJV-Interlinear

18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things. 19 And I urge you all the more to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. NASB

The writer of this book of Hebrews, is asking for prayer from the readers, for himself and others like him. Why? Because he is a communicator of Bible doctrine.

God gave us all the scriptures. Were it not for His initial communication of truth, none of us would have a clue as to what life was all about. None of us would even survive with any hope of a decent life.

So we are all to pray for doctrine so that we will have something with which to learn Gods Word and gain wisdom, and so that we will be able to grow up in our spiritual life.

Again, without doctrine there is nothing more than a life of misery in this world. Only with doctrine can any of us have something to look forward to.

Since Bible doctrine is the difference between a life of failure and misery as opposed to a life of prosperity and eternal happiness, then asking for doctrine, that it will always be available for our study, is a must.

God provides the scriptures. God also provides us with communicators of that doctrine. Communicators that teach within the boundaries of our contemporary lives. Every century, every generation throughout human history, there are issues that pertain only to that generation. Teachers within that generation teach on a level which allows those readers to understand Gods Word within the framework of their frame of reference.

Today we live in the age of the internet, mp3 players, laptop computers and such. This vocabulary did not exist a century ago. That generation knew of horses and buggy whips and some ridiculous idea of flying machines.

The Word of God was the same then as it is now, just the illustrations change which help people to learn spiritual principles.

Communicators are not better people, they are just given a gift with a desire to write or speak Gods word to whomever is interested.

Satan is always on the prowl to interrupt Gods plan, which includes the communication of His Word. And so the battle between good and evil continues. God honors positive volition and that attitude is demonstrated in the form of prayer.

If there are a lot of people interested in Bible doctrine, then they will pray for its availability. They will pray that God does not turn His back on them, and that God will always make available, His spiritual word for their spiritual growth. God honors that request.

If there are few people who are interested, then the prayers will also be few in number. That means trouble for a negative society.

Back in Solomon s day The population in Israel was positive toward God. Prosperity was booming. Silver was a common as the stones in the streets. The temple was beautiful and in good repair. It was wealthy due to all of the donations made by a positive people.

Later, that all changed. As people became negative the temple received less offerings, needed repairs were ignored. Alternative cults and religions grew in prosperity. The spiritual change was obvious by the changes in attitude, toward God and scripture, within the nation. That nation eventually split and both were eventually overrun by enemies. Prophets and priests could not be found except in very few numbers, near the end.

No interest, no prayers, no prayers, no communicators, no communicators, no truth to guide ones life by, no truth as a guide, then all one is left with are the lies of the world. And the world is on a nose dive toward oblivion.

The writer, who by the way is not identified, expresses a wish to return to his readers. There is a great principle found in this. First, the communicator is not the subject of the book. Christ is. Second, the communicator does not need to be personally known to you, nor even seen by you, in order for you to grow up spiritually. The writer is unidentified because he is not important. What is important is Gods word, its availability, and of course your attitude.

Your spiritual life is the single most important thing you can ever possess in your life. It is the only thing, bedsides your life, that you can take with you into eternity. Nothing else in this world is as important. Therefore, of all the things that you should pray for, having doctrine always available, should be on the very top of your prayer request list.

And perhaps one day, when we all get to heaven, then we can get together and talk about our online Bible study. I hope that I will not be there talking to myself !!!!!

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
