John 3:27-28

Lesson # John 3:27-28
Study Material - John 3:27-28

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 3:27-28

27 John answered and said, 'A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven. 28 'You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.'

John's followers would have expected him to follow their argument and place those unbelieving Jews in their place. But John was a mature believer and understood the issues.

No person can promote themselves in a manner that will result in permanent promotion or prosperity. All good things come from heaven, not from below heaven. God controls history. God promotes. God demotes.

John was not disillusioned with public notoriety, or popularity of his day. He did not seek greatness for himself at the expense of Jesus Christ. He did not lust for leadership, nor wealth, nor greatness in the publics eye.

God provides all that we have and all that we will ever have. Too often people get the wrong idea when they have some prosperity. They think that they accomplished these things on their own, but God is really the provider. None of us can know the future in detail. We don't know if the market will go up or down. We don't know if it will rain or shine. We can make educated guesses, but we cannot control the actual results with any certainty.

Some people are in the right place at the right time. Ever wonder why that is? While some people always seem to be in the wrong place all the time. People try to promote themselves with their brown nosing techniques, with their social climbing skills, by knowing all the right people, by belonging to all the right clubs, driving the right car, wearing the right clothes. These are misguided people, slaves to fads and their desire to belong to the right groups.

John had his head screwed on straight. If we look heavenward to God, through our knowledge in Bible doctrine, then we will recognize that God alone will promote us, and in His way, and in the manner that best fits us into His plan for our life. We do not need to seek popularity from people. Cursed is the man who trusts in man. Ever heard that one before?

John reminds his followers that it is Jesus that should be awed not John. John is the messenger, not the subject of the message. Jesus Christ is the one about whom all the scriptures were written. John merely filled a prophecy, in his being the one sent before Jesus Christ. He came from the wilderness, as mankind is lost in the wilderness, to show man the way out, through faith in Christ. John never sought his own popularity, but only that of Christ and the doctrines of salvation. Issues that are far more important than any of us could ever be. Any desire for importance is pure arrogance. The sad things is that so many churches are filled with this kind of competitiveness for drawing people to their respective churches, rather than simply teaching Bible doctrine. If people are not positive then they will have no congregation, and no money, and none of the things that makes their church pretty and so forth. The Pharisees were caught up in all of this. Their leadership had a cash cow, and they were not about to give it up. The teaching of doctrine was secondary to their ultimate objective, which was having a good life for themselves and having important positions in society.

So this lesson goes to all leaders or would be leaders. Whether it be in grammar school, or national politics, in sports or business or social settings. We are all in the positions we are in by the grace of God. wee do not earn them nor deserve them. We are none the better than those who do not occupy high positions. If prosperity and success is allowed to go to your head, then beware, the cliff is just ahead and a hard fall imminent.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
