John 4:46-54

Lesson # John 4:46-54
Study Material - John 4:46-54

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 4:46-54

46 He came therefore again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain royal official, whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him, and was requesting Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. 48 Jesus therefore said to him, 'Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.' 49 The royal official said to Him, 'Sir, come down before my child dies.' 50 Jesus said to him, 'Go your way; your son lives.' The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he started off. 51 And as he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living. 52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, 'Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.' 53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, 'Your son lives'; and he himself believed, and his whole household. 54 This is again a second sign that Jesus performed, when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

Here we begin parallel activities from Matt. 4:23. The miracles were numerous, and we have but one account out of several given concerning a mans sick son. The man was in another city and had heard the stories of the miracles Jesus was performing. He went to Cana where Jesus was, and requested Him to come and make his son well.

This was not the only person who was making requests to Jesus. Many such requests were being made. Many people came to Jesus to be healed themselves as well as asking Him to come with them to their homes to help their family members, loved ones, and so forth.

Comparing the verses in Matthew with this passage, we can see why Jesus commented to the people, 'Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.' And so it is with many people. They have to see proof. They have to see some kind of direct benefit from God before they believe. Yet the benefits are all around us and have been since the day each of us was born into this world.

Our individual births were miracles of a sort. The fact we managed to survive infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood could be considered a miracle. The fact that our heart beats regularly, something that we have no control over, is due to the grace of God. The fact we have income and homes, food and shelter, things of leisure, and more are all from the courtesy of God. But do people see these as benefits? Not generally.

People are always short sighted. Everything we have is taken for granted. Only when things go wrong, when disaster hits, when money runs short, when the medical problems overwhelm us, then do we turn to God for relief.

But where have we been during those times of prosperity? Where was our diligent Bible study? Or what did we do between our study periods. Did we forget God and go on with business as usual, forgetting God until He was needed? Wrong attitude.

The scriptures are all that is needed for us to have a secure life. God takes care of all our needs. Most people get distracted with their everyday life and turn to God only in times of crisis. The times you need to spend with God are every moment of the day and night by being in fellowship consistently, and people just do not follow this plan.

Jesus did the miracles to help those in need. He did not have to be present by a sick persons side. He did not have to have specific identification of the individual. Jesus Christ is God and knows all there is to know. He knows everyone is detail. Better than we know ourselves. Jesus does not have to touch the sick to heal them. He merely has to think the thought, or speak the word and the healing is done. He grants requests even to those who are weak in their faith. And seeking proof is a weakness in ones faith.

To the believer in fellowship and advancing toward spiritual maturity, the faith is strong, the proof is always before you and there is no need for further specific acts of Gods love. The blessings are always present because the strength is in the doctrine in the soul. God honors those who are advancing to spiritual maturity. Prayer requests are heard and answered. Perhaps not in the manner one expects, but they are answered all the same. God protects, defends, blesses, honors, and promotes those who belong to Him, and are living in His presence, in fellowship. To those who are prepared by means of their advancement to maturity there is great reward. These promises are repeated throughout the scriptures. Even in the time of Jesus, nearly 2000 years ago, those people had the Old Testament scriptures to help them advance to spiritual maturity, but most were weak in their doctrinal knowledge.

If God will help those who are weak in faith and come requesting help based on their selfish desire to have the hurting ended, then how much more will he help those who are obedient to His will? To those who advance to maturity by studying His Word? When we are in fellowship, God hears all our requests. We do not have to go to the holy land to see Him personally, or visit some place where He walked or stood. From our position of fellowship we are in effect standing before God, in His immediate presence, and we have His full attention. In fellowship, we stand before the throne of God, we stand in the palace, we stand in His fortress. And that is our place of rest once we have cracked the maturity barrier. Our requests become more compatible with His plan for our lives, and we place the burdens of our lives in His hands. God takes over our lives and we enjoy the ride.

The last verse repeats that this is again another miracle Christ performed. People should have understood the real issues. Life is not one miracle after another. Life is not dependent on the work of a genie, getting one wish after another. Life is focusing on God and His plan for each of us. Life is learning what that plan is and growing up to a mature status, rather than living as immature people in this world. Miracles do not provide a foundation for life, but Bible doctrine does.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
