John 5:26-27

Lesson # John 5:26-27
Study Material - John 5:26-27

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 5:26-27

26 'For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; 27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

Now here is where some faiths go astray. They, for example the Mormons, contend that Jesus was born to God, and thus became the Son of God. This is a false assumption and a rejection that Christ is God. God has always existed. There are three members of the trinity - the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. They are all co-equal and co-eternal.

God has always existed and there has never been a time when He has not existed, Psa. 90:2, 'from everlasting to everlasting.'

God is always the same. He will never change. He is immutable in His essence, in His character, in His policy, Jas. 1:17.

God is life, He is a living God, Josh. 3:10. All other concepts of god from Allah to idols of stone, to fish, wolves, bears, moons, stars, and anything else you can think of, these are lifeless gods. They lack the essence, the character, the abilities of 'The God.' There is only one God and that refers to the essence of God. There are three persons in the Godhead. All have these same characteristics.

Jesus Christ is the God/man. As God he has always existed, Phil. 2:6, but He became a man to be equal with us too, and therefore be our mediator to God As man he was born of a virgin. Joseph was not a party to the pregnancy. As God he is a part of the policy which was established in heaven in eternity past.

The Father created a plan. The Son had His role in that plan. The Holy Spirit has His role in that plan. Neither of the three members of the Godhead acted independently from the others. Neither of the three wished to be independent of the others. A plan was set, and a policy for each members role in that plan. None of the three are in any lessor of a position than the others. They are all equal in deity.

God is life. Gods gave life to the Son. That is to say, the Father assigned the authority of life to the Son within the scope of the overall Plan and its execution in history. Gave is 'didomi' which is to give, to bestow, to deliver, to assign. The Son received the authority for the giving of life, for the taking away of life, for the restoration of life both in resuscitation and resurrection, from the Father.

Likewise in the next verse, the Son received this same authority for judging and the execution of judgment

Why? Why did Jesus receive these powers and authorities? Because He is the Son of Man. Not just any son, as there have been many sons born throughout history, but because He is the single and only begotten Son who is God (deity) who is simultaneously a man, therefore co-equal with both God and man in the same person, the unique person of the universe, Jesus Christ.

There is no other who fits this description. There has been and will be no other person who will fill this role. Jesus Christ is unique. And furthermore, these same Jews who have been criticizing Jesus all along now have the very verse they have recited every Saturday for all of their lives,

Deu. 6:4 'Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!

The Lord is a reference to the Son of God. The 'Lord is one,' is a reference to His uniqueness. 'The Lord is God, the Lord is unique!'

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
