John 5:40-43

Lesson # John 5:40-43
Study Material - John 5:40-43

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 5:40-43

40 and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life. 41 'I do not receive glory from men; 42 but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. 43 'I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another shall come in his own name, you will receive him.

Those who refuse to believe in Christ lack two things. They first lack Gods love, 'agape', or a tolerance of others. This comes form a life of self centered existence. Self centered existence is impossible to avoid when they lack the second thing which is 'light' within their soul.

Light helps us to see. Try to find something in the pitch darkness. Only when you are familiar with your surroundings can you find something you've misplaced (maybe). But life is not a familiar surrounding in the sense that you might think of your home as being something familiar.

We are born into this world. In our soul is darkness, or the lack of a discernible ability with respect to the totality of life (this includes the spiritual part). When we are born into the world we see only the physical part, but that is not all there is to life. The spiritual part is far greater than what we are able to experience with our five senses.

I read an article in an astronomy magazine( Nov., 2002, Sky and Telescope) and there was a chart showing all the matter in the universe. Of all the matter that is visible (stars and so forth), that visible part of the universe only comprises 6/10 th's of 1 % of all matter. That is a pretty small percentage. Dark matter by far makes up the greater portion of the universe. More than 99% of the universe is unseen.

So it is with life. We have our physical life and that comprises a very small percentage of life. The spiritual life is unseen, undetectable by the five senses, yet it makes up the greatest portion of your life, or it should.

If a person has not believed in Christ, they reject not only Christ and eternal life, but they reject the greatest portion of their entire potential existence.

Christ offers life. If we want this life, we need to gain it through Him. It is only available through Christ. If we do not have this life, then it is not because it has been elusive to us, it is because we have actively rejected it, 'unwilling to come to Me.' People do not die unbelievers by accident, they choose to reject Christ, and thus go to the death of their own choosing.

Men seek glory for themselves. Entertainers, politicians, professors, educated folk and uneducated folk alike all seek glory for themselves through and from others in their periphery, near and far.

They seek the applause and adoration of the crowd. They are impressed when they are in the lime light and others look to them for their expertise or talent. It is a false glory.

Christ did not come to earth to gain the glory and applause of mankind. He does not need it. He did not come to earth in His own name, but in the name of the Father who sent Him (Gods Plan).

God has great tolerance for man. Men have little tolerance of those who disagree with them. Often to the point of violence when their opinions are challenged.

The Pharisees sought to be pure in their actions, but they left out the reasons for the actions (rituals, feasts, celebrations). Those reasons being the teaching of fundamental principles of doctrine.

When a person lacks light in their soul (only Bible doctrine can provide light in the soul and therefore a clear view of the facts), then they have the opposite - darkness. In the darkness you cannot find your way especially when your surroundings are unfamiliar. You cannot define your surroundings into something that they are not. You cannot pretend that your surroundings are something they are not. Life is what it is, and your lack of visual access to see it isn't going to change the facts of life. There is birth, there is a possible rebirth, there is death, there is a resurrection, there is an eternal state of one type (heaven) or another (hell). Your refusal to acknowledge it will not change these truths. A persons attempt to redefine these truths wont' change them.

Yet people do this all the time. Professors come up with their theories. Entertainers come up with their 'statements' of wisdom in their art, music, and such. Politicians come up with their regulations for the better good of the people. All have an opinion of some sort or another.

Jer. 2:12+, people stand ready to select another in the place of God, based on virtually no credible evidence of that others abilities or existence. Some pursue the ancient myths. Some pursue the lyrics of music. Others pursue a humming posture on a rug. Still others pursue technology or just plain apathy or disbelief (refusal to believe in a God at all). This list goes on and on forever.

When one is in the dark, then it is very easy to accept just about anything as truth, especially when you cannot, or will not, see the contradictions of that philosophy.

The Bible has been around ever since the time of Moses, but it has really been around long before Moses' time. Biblical concepts have been here since Adam. They were given animal skins in to cover themselves. Where did those animal skins come from? Their sacrifices. Those sacrifices taught them doctrine and salvation principles and fellowship principles. Cain and Abel offered sacrifices. Abel's were correct. Cain's were self serving and of his own design, not of Gods design and therefore rejected.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
