Lesson # John 14:25-26
Study Material - John 14:25-26
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
25 These things [tauta] have I spoken [laleo] unto you [humin] , being yet present [meno] with [para] you [humin] .
26 But [de] the Comforter [parakletos] , which is the Holy [hagios] Ghost [pneuma] , whom [hos] the Father [pater] will send [pempo] in [en] my [mou] name [onoma] , he [ekeinos] shall teach [didasko] you [humas] all things [pas] , and [kai] bring [hupomimnesko] all things [pas] to [hupomimnesko] your [humas] remembrance [hupomimnesko] , whatsoever [hos] I have said [epo] unto you [humin] . KJV-Interlinear
25 'These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you. 26 'But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. NASB
Here the helper is identified. The Holy Spirit is going to be sent. This is a future tense from the time which Jesus spoke. It will not occur until the Feast of Pentecost which is fifty days after Passover. These Feasts of the Old Testament are all connected in that they teach the various principles of doctrine to all who were interested, in the centuries prior to Christ's first advent.
Before this time, Christ's first advent, the Holy Spirit had a significant function in the communication of all scripture. He is the member of the Trinity who restored the earth in six days in Genesis. That same function of restoration and preservation is applied in the restraining ministry of the Holy Spirit which prevents man from destroying himself, 2 Thes. 2:6-7.
The Holy Spirit makes clear the gospel to unbelievers so that they might make an informed decision regarding salvation, 2 Cor. 2:14, Jn. 16:7-11. And if that person makes a positive decision toward Christ, then the Holy Spirit makes that faith expression effective for salvation for that individual, Eph. 2:8.
Now remember that the Holy Spirit has a silent ministry. We can neither sense in any way shape or form, nor detect the actions or even the presence of the Holy Spirit. The only way we know that He exists or has any functions in dealing with us as believers or even for unbelievers, is through our learning of Him through our Bible study.
All of these organizations that make a big deal about getting the ghost, and going through their emotional or seizure like gyrations are pure bunk. They are false and phony. The spiritual life is not of this physical world. We cannot see it, nor measure, nor detect it in any form. Our connection to the spiritual is through faith, and faith alone. God does all of the work. We merely trust that it is so.
The Father is the authority figure. He is the author of the divine plan. It is that Plan which Jesus Christ executes in history. Jesus states the oneness of purpose of the Godhead in many passages. John chapter 5 is a very good chapter for this explanation. We have already studied that passage.
The Father will send the Holy Spirit. This is future or after the Cross. It will be in the Church Age, actually it will mark the beginning of the Church Age when the Holy Spirit will descend upon the apostles and other disciples, indwelling them, and to further mark that initial event (the beginning of the Church Age), they will be given simultaneously a gift called tongues (languages) prophesied by Isaiah, wherein people of all nationalities will hear them (the apostles) speak in their (each respective foreigner's) own language. Not by gibberish, but by clearly spoken language in each persons native tongue.
Now, the Holy Spirit is the principle communicator of Bible doctrine to every believer. Herein stated. He communicates all spiritual information to the believer, and causes the remembrance of doctrines learned by the believer.
The Holy Spirit is the author of all communicated scripture. It is by His ministry that man is able to understand effectively, Gods Word. And He does this when man is in fellowship. Out of fellowship anything perceived by man is merely academic information. Some passages on this are as follows: divine author 1 Cor. 2:16, Heb. 3:7, doctrine is communicated accurately, 2 Sam. 23:2, 2 Tim. 3:16, 2 Pet. 1:20-21, the Holy Spirit teaches the believer, Jn. 14:26, Jn. 15:26.
The knowledge taught is called academic knowledge or 'gnosis,' Eph. 3:19. But full knowledge or knowledge whose spiritual content becomes beneficial to the believer is called 'epignosis,' Eph. 4:13, 2 Pet. 1:18.
You can refer to the charts of the soul of the believer and unbeliever on the Index page on the web site for a better explanation and picture of these concepts.
So, the Holy Spirit is the member of the Trinity who teaches us all doctrine , and provides for its circulation throughout our soul, making the Word of God effective and real in our life. He has other tasks, but His communicative functions are in view here. We might add that The Holy Spirit by entrance into our bodies, which occurred when you first believed in Christ, and that indwelling is a permanent indwelling by the way, makes our bodies a Temple for the residence of the other two members of the Trinity - the Son and the Father. All three members of the Trinity indwell each and every believer in this Church Age, permanently, Rom. 8:9-11, 1 Cor. 3:16, 6:19-20, 2 Cor. 6:16, Col. 1:27-29.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
