Study Material - John 17:6-10

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

John 17:6-10

6 I have manifested [phaneroo] thy [sou] name [onoma] unto the men [anthropos] which [hos] thou gavest [didomi] me [moi] out of [ek] the world [kosmos] : thine [sos] they were [en] , and [kai] thou gavest [didomi] them [autos] me [emoi] ; and [kai] they have kept [tereo] thy [sou] word [logos] .

John 17:6-10

6 'I manifested Thy name to the men whom Thou gavest Me out of the world; Thine they were, and Thou gavest them to Me, and they have kept Thy word. 7 'Now they have come to know that everything Thou hast given Me is from Thee; 8 for the words which Thou gavest Me I have given to them; and they received them, and truly understood that I came forth from Thee, and they believed that Thou didst send Me. 9 'I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom Thou hast given Me; for they are Thine; 10 and all things that are Mine are Thine, and Thine are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. NASB

There is but one Plan, one God, one Savior. The Bible reveals God the Father to mankind. In eternity past the Father set about creating a plan for all of creation. He evaluated all possibilities for human existence. He decided on the best course of all the possible courses in history and we call that the divine decrees.

In them (the decrees) God identifies all peoples who will believe in Christ and thus place their faith in salvation. It was for these (believers) which God made all of history. He chose to institute a history, and therefore chose each and every believer who would respond positively to Him.

It was these for whom Jesus Christ came into this world to manifest the reality of salvation. But, you say, did not God come into the world for all of mankind? Of course. He laid out the pattern of salvation for everyone, but only those who actually believe in Him will enter into heaven and thus the fruit of their faith will be rewarded, not those who reject Christ. And therefore, Christ is given the responsibility for all who will believe in Him. He went to the Cross and was crushed, Isa. 53:10, and it was all for something and not for nothing, Isa. 49:4. If through all of history no one believed, then salvation from the Cross would have been for nothing.

All men are born into the world, that is the world of the unsaved. But those who believe, are in effect removed from the world (its rules of destiny) and are placed inside the rules of spiritual destiny. Therefore, when Christ ascended, He led a huge parade of captives, Eph. 4:8, Old Testament believers. Captives held in Paradise in the underworld waiting the reality of that which was promised, but did not transpire until the Cross became a historical reality. Satan trying to prevent the Cross and salvation, which if he had succeeded, would have kept all those who had believed, in captivity in the underworld forever. But that was not to be.

But now, verse 7, all know of Christ and the Cross. All know that there is but one faith, one plan, one God, one savior, and all things that are true go through Him, Jesus Christ, and through no one else.

The words we read in the Bible, came originally from God the Father. Given to the Son and then to mankind, by means of the Holy Spirit who reveals all truth. And all who listen and learn, and believe and accept His Word, will come to know the truth, and will be able to discern between the truth of the spiritual realm and the lies of the physical world.

It is because of believers, that God has a plan in the first place, verse 9. Were there no one to believe in Him, then history would have been for nothing. But God laid out as plan which gives us a tremendous life both in time and in eternity, and for our benefit, because we believe in Him, and in His promise, through our faith alone, for we do nothing to earn or deserve anything from God. It because of us, believers in Christ, that God provides this world with His grace and mercy (grace in action). He does not function for the world, as Jesus states here, but for those who have been removed from the world, believers.

Both the Son and the Father own all things. Both are working from the same game plan. There is no other God, no other alternate go-between man, no other means of solving mans problem of sin and death. Man cannot solve these problems on his own despite our huge technological advances in modern times. Gadgets and gismo's will not solve our fundamental problems of sin and death.

And who, in all of this, will be glorified? God, Jesus Christ, and no one else. Not man, not politicians, not angels, not animals, not any other thing under creation. Read again the words of the verses in this passage. Ponder them, and consider your priorities in life. Your existence in this world is real. Your destiny options are real. You have to choose the direction for your life. Choosing for God and your spiritual life is the correct choice. Ignoring it or rejecting it, is a choice for the worst destiny for yourself.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
