Jude 1:2

2 Mercy [eleos] unto you [humin], and [kai] peace [eirene], and [kai] love [agape], be multiplied [plethuno]. KJV-Interlinear

2 May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you. NASB

Three of the primary characteristics of spiritual maturity are mentioned in the opening of this verse. Spiritual maturity is the unique and exclusive privilege only for believers in Jesus Christ. Unbelievers, those who reject Christ, will never have a spiritual life, and of course will never achieve any form of spiritual maturity. It just does not exist for them.

Believers in Christ are in an exclusive club. Only they, have access to God. Only they, have the potential for greater blessings for God and the opportunity for attaining Gods mercy, Gods peace, and Gods love. And more than that, only mature believers will receive the continued increase (multiplied) of these exclusive blessings.

Mercy is Gods grace in action. There are two types of Gods grace. Well, actually there are three types of grace. The first grace is common grace which is available to all of humanity. God provided us all air to breath, gravity to keep us on the ground, the laws of establishment to preserve us all in the jungle of this world and so forth.

The laws of establishment include volition, marriage, family, free enterprise, authority, law and order and due process, nationalism and so forth. These serve as stabilizing effects in the jungle. The jungle of which tries to incorporate all forms opposite to or compromises of, these divine rules.

For example, rape is an attack on ones privacy or right to freely decide. It is theft of that to which one is not entitled. Homosexuality is an attack on marriage. Communism is an attack on free enterprise. Liberalism is an attack on ones person liberty and freedom to decide for ones self. And so forth.

The second type of grace is common grace for all believers. This is Gods grace for holding and keeping all believers under His personal control and protection. God disciplines and blesses as He deems appropriate. God provides Bible doctrine for all regardless if believers are positive or negative. The information is always there for everyone.

Then there is greater grace. The third type or category of grace. This is the ultimate grace which belongs only to mature believers. Here God provides greater blessings, love, and peace to all believers who advance to spiritual maturity.

This third category is the objective of every believers advance in their spiritual life, and is the subject of Jude's second verse.

Mercy is Gods grace in action. Mercy brings Gods promises into reality. This results in peace. Peace here is the greater peace of prosperity, of security, of contentment, and ultimately of a fulfilling happiness. Both of these are made possible to man, by Gods 'love.' Love ('agape') if you recall is your obedience to Gods mandates or obedience to Bible doctrine. We studied this in detail in 1, 2, 3 Jn.

When you love God you pursue your Bible studies and advance to spiritual maturity in the proper form which God has designed. This is not an emotional love, but the principle of love. Again we studied love in its three forms (principle, friendship, and intimacy), in 1-3 Jn.

As you advance to spiritual maturity and then maintain your maturity, you soon realize that you never stop growing. You just keep on growing up more and more as you continue to learn and as your eyes are opened up more and more to the realities of life and Gods wisdom.

These three characteristics are multiplied to you in a continuous and never ending multiplication. In other words you growth and blessings just keep on increasing and increasing without end.

The only way you can lose this status is to stop your Bible studies and then you regress in your spiritual life and have to make up the growth ground when you eventually do restart your studies again.

By the way you can never lose your salvation. Once saved always saved. Once you have been born, you can never 'unborn' your self. So rebirth into the family of God is permanent. Your rebirth is what Christianity calls being born again. This occurred at the very instant that you believed in Christ. And in that instant you received a human spirit and in it was placed eternal life.

In the spiritual life there is only good that can come from it, and only greater and greater good comes from continuing in your spiritual life.
