Luke 3:23-38

Lesson # Luke 3:23-38
Study Material - Luke 3:23-38

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Luke 3:23-38

23 And when He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being supposedly the son of Joseph, the son of Eli, 24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, 25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Hesli, the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda, 27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, 30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim, 31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, 32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, 33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Admin, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, 34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, 35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Shelah, 36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, 37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, 38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Jesus was 30 years old when He began His ministry. So Joseph was 30 years old when he stood before Pharaoh, Gen 41:46, and David was 30 years old when he began his reign as king, 2 Sam 5:4, and too the priests began their office at the age of 30, Num. 4:3.

So the age was a significant age. Ones fancies as a young person have passed. Enough events have occurred in ones life that maturity should have set in by now. Thirty is a good age for beginning a responsible life. Jesus has been on this earth for these 30 years. Probably more like He had completed his 29th year and was beginning his 30th year. His ministry would last 42 months or 3 ½ years until the mid point in his 32nd year. At the age of 32 ½ years in the spring, at passover, the event of the Cross would occur. Jesus had endured the same things that we all go through in our first 30 years. He prepared himself for the task and purpose of His being here on earth. Once prepared His ministry would begin.

Also, Jesus could not fail in any aspect of His life especially in the first 30 years. God announced that He was well pleased in Jesus, therefore, Jesus did not fail in any aspect of His life thus far. Even by age 12, He was well prepared in doctrine as we have already seen. And He knew full well what His purpose in life was. Too many books and plays and movies portray Christ as a long haired weak person uncertain at times, but we will see, as we move through the scriptures, that Christ was never uncertain about His task, nor did He ever hesitate for even an instant. His prayers to the Father, and His expressions of concern were from quoted scripture of old times, indicating His complete fulfillment of the scriptures. This also gives us a peak into His mind as He makes statements indicating His thoughts. Jesus was a powerful man and would have set the beach muscle types to shame. He thought doctrine throughout His life, and here we have the completeness of His life in His geneaology from Mary to her father, Eli, and not the father of Joseph, but because genealogies always follow the male side of the line. Joseph's side was listed in Matthew but here Mary's side is listed. Both Joseph and Mary are descendants of David, and therefore Jesus is a legitimate descendant of David and heir to the throne of David.

Throughout the history of the line of Christ, the many ancestors failed and failed in many different ways. So mankind proves clearly that the answer to mans problems will not originate from man apart from God. But the answer to mans problems will come from the person of Christ who is God in the flesh.

The line begins with God, who is Jesus Christ, and ends in verse 38 with God, who created us all. So God is the author, creator, and finisher. The genealogies begin, and come from the records maintained in the official record of family histories as kept and maintained by the Jewish peoples at that time. Jesus was born to the union of Joseph and Mary and both lines were recorded in the official records and were available to the writers of scripture for their revelation to us today in the books of Matthew and Luke. Despite all the trouble the Jewish people faced throughout the centuries and even before the Jewish nation even came into existence, they managed to keep an account of the records of Jesus Christ. Yet in 70 AD the record keeping, the Levitical offerings, all the rituals of the Old Testament, came to an abrupt end, as Roman legions crushed the city of Jerusalem and the country of Judea and all of Israel.

In God's plan certain things and peoples and people are maintained for certain purposes. When that purpose is accomplished, then they are removed. Jesus Christ controls history. Until His plan is accomplished nothing can prevent His plan from taking place. Likewise, when Gods plan has been fulfilled, then nothing can prevent God from removing those things or persons He determines to remove.

You have a plan laid out for your life. If you are positive and advancing toward maturity, you will fulfill your purpose which God has designed for you and nothing in this world will prevent it. God will not remove you until it suits His purpose. He maintained the line of His humanity for over 4000 years despite all of Satan's attempts to interfere with His plan. He entered this world, fulfilled His purpose on the Cross, and left this world without missing a beat. So your life will continue without missing a beat in God's eyes as long as you continue in your Bible study, and your life will be much easier on yourself if you maintain you spiritual advances.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
