Parables of Christ - The Sower - Luke 8:11-12

Lesson # Parables of Christ - The Sower - Luke 8:11-12
Study Material - Parables of Christ - The Sower - Luke 8:11-12

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

The Sower
Luke 8:11-12

11 Now [de] the parable [parabole] is [esti] this [houtos] : The seed [sporos] is [esti] the word [logos] of God [theos] .
12 Those [de] by [para] the way side [hodos] are [eisi] they that hear [akouo] ; then [eita] cometh [erchomai] the devil [diabolos] , and [kai] taketh away [airo] the word [logos] out of [apo] their [autos] hearts [kardia] , lest [hina me] they should believe [pisteuo] and be saved [sozo] . KJV-Interlinear

11 'Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. 12 'And those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they may not believe and be saved. NASB

Matt. 13:18-19
18 'Hear then the parable of the sower. 19 'When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. NASB

Mark 4:14-15
14 'The sower sows the word. 15 'And these are the ones who are beside the road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them. NASB

The world is an excellent propaganda machine. Through it, people can by means of their own volition, become insensitive toward life and truth. People that lack understanding and are adamantly against truth have crossed the barrier where spiritual remorse is lacking.

Having crossed that invisible attitude barrier, they have lost anything that might soften their attitude - remorse, guilt, shame, a feeling of insufficiency or of something lacking in their life. They can be defiant in their life against anything of a theological nature, or they can pursue other religious beliefs because the philosophies appeal to them better (for example the promise of virgins in paradise from Islam). Their lusts guide them and they simply have hardened souls that refuse to see the fallacies of their beliefs, and the truth which they reject.

We have studied in the past and on several occasions, the need and even Gods demand that we make a choice. There are but two choices in life. Either we choose for God or we choose against God.

Choosing for God may seem simple, but in life there are many subtle issues that we might take for granted, and therefore we fail because we discover ourselves supporting something wrong. Example, we are members of a religious sect for all our life. We become use to it because we have been exposed to it for all our life. We discover that it is wrong, but we have difficulty in removing ourselves from its influence simply because we have become used to having it in our life. Test one. What choice do we make? Do we continue supporting it even knowing it is wrong? Do we support something else that is right? Do we pretend ignorance and satisfy our obligation to support something, but we just close our eyes to the fact that our support is going contrary to Gods will?

Making a choice in life isn't simply believing in Christ or not. Life goes on even after salvation and choices are always present. We'll see in the last of this parable that there will be those who produce great returns in their spiritual life and there will be those who produce little in their spiritual life. Closing your eyes in your spiritual life will yield you little. Thinking that you are not making a choice is in fact a choice against God.

The hardened walking path is the hardened soul of a person who has become insensitive toward God. It is the path of a defiant and resistant negative attitude toward God. The seed is the Word of God. Christ is the sower of course. He is the living Word and the written Word of God. The Holy Spirit though not specifically mentioned here is the communicator of the Word of God (the seed breaking forth from within the fertile soil of the soul and thus growth, springs forth from within).

The hard packed road resists the seed. The seed cannot penetrate because of this resistance and the result is that other information (birds) sweep away Gods wisdom, and the person resisting God will lose everything that is provided by God. The world is an excellent propaganda machine. What is left to the resistant person is worldly information, human views, philosophies, distractions, other priorities of life, personal lusts or desires, and so forth. The result? The resistant person is trampled underfoot due to the traffic of the worlds activities.

The evil one is a reference to Satan, but not to him specifically. It is a reference to his philosophies and false doctrines. Eve was distracted in the Garden. Cain was misled. All things that run contrary to Gods truth, originated from Satan. He is the father of all lies. Lies are simply the distortions of truth, sometimes very subtle, sometimes very obvious. Even excluding truth components can make the message given into a lie.

Choices are made in life, and continued negative choices whether in defiance toward the gospel and salvation, or in defiance to changing ones self from a wrong thing to a right thing, will end up limiting or destroying ones production and therefore blessing in life.

The question really is, who do we fear more? God? Or, do we fear offending people more than we fear God. Do we give in to people, for fear of offending someone, and therefore lose our blessings from God, or is God more important and do we have the courage to tell the world to 'kiss off?'

The power that the world has over you is limited to the extent that you give it power over your life. Otherwise, the world is powerless - totally powerless when God is in your life.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
