Mark 3:5-6

Lesson # Mark 3:5-6
Study Material - Mark 3:5-6

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Mark 3:5-6

5 And [kai] when he had looked round about [periblepo] on them [autos] with [meta] anger [orge] , being grieved [sullupeo] for [epi] the hardness [porosis] of their [autos] hearts [kardia] , he saith [lego] unto the man [anthropos] , Stretch forth [ekteino] thine [sou] hand [cheir] . And [kai] he stretched it out [ekteino] : and [kai] his [autos] hand [cheir] was restored [apokathistemi] whole [hugies] as [hos] the other [allos] .
6 And [kai] the Pharisees [Pharisaios] went forth [exerchomai] , and straightway [eutheos] took [poieo] counsel [sumboulion] with [meta] the Herodians [Herodianoi] against [kata] him [autos] , how [hopos] they might destroy [apollumi] him [autos] . KJV-Interlinear

Mark 3:5-6

5 And after looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored. 6 And the Pharisees went out and immediately began taking counsel with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.
NAS

Jesus looked around to see or find some who were objective or even interested in the truth. All saw and heard the truth, but many, and this verse implies that there were many present, who were not there, in the Synagogue, for the intended purpose of the Synagogue (learning scripture - objectively), but were there for the exclusive purpose of witnessing and finding a way of getting rid of, or of discrediting Jesus in the eyes of the people.

His crowds were growing by the day. His miracles had no apparent mechanism which could be discovered by man. He was a threat, or so they perceived, to their existence. They were paranoid in short.

People who lack Bible doctrine lack the truth. People who lack Bible doctrine in their soul lack any means of discernment, lack any means of distinguishing truth from lie. Not seeing the truth they manufacture a replacement truth, and this false notion becomes their undoing, their self ruin.

Who among them would lift a finger to help the man? None. Who among them would look at the good that could be done by helping someone in need? None.

Jesus saw their hardness, their stubbornness, their defiant refusal to alter their selfishness even for a moment to help another, and the expression on His face was apparent to Mark (the writer of this book). Jesus was disappointed in their attitude, had disgust for their indifference, had disapproval for their persistence to change themselves.

Jesus told the man to raise his hand. The man obeyed - faith. The hand was healed immediately. Where is the work that is to be condemned?

The two groups now represented, the Pharisees who pretended to speak for the church and God, and now the Herodians, or those who belonged to the political realm, followers of Herod. Both of these groups were indignant to each other having opposite views and objectives, but both who follow similar patterns of life. Both sought their own personal enrichment through either the political arm or the theological arm of life. The citizens or the masses paying the support of both. The masses having virtually no say in the affairs of state.

Jesus came to do good. He harmed no one. These people were antagonistic toward His good, and even went behind closed doors to plot His demise, His death, and on the Sabbath no less! How crude. You would think they would at least wait until after Monday Night Football! Now that is something that should raise the ire of any red blooded positive believer.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
