Matthew 6:11

Lesson # Matt. 6:11
Study Material - Matt. 6:11

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 6:11

11 'Give us this day our daily bread.

A request in prayer for the necessities of life, manna from heaven, but man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from God.

Bread has a couple of connotations here. First we have need of nourishment both for the body and for the soul. One bread fulfills the body needs, but only on a temporary basis. We eat one meal and then have need for another today, and again tomorrow, and so forth. Food, physical food sustains for a while, but only for a while.

The soul has need of food as well, but it is spiritual food that it needs. Spiritual food fulfills the needs of the soul, giving it nourishment which lasts forever. Spiritual food also provides us with a defense against our own sin natures as well as the common attacks that we might encounter in this world.

Then there is the third connotation of bread, and that is in reference to the common daily needs that we have in this life. We need a job, income, transportation, a home, clothing, toys, entertainment, and the list goes on. Man was not made a hermit, but a social creature. There is need for a spouse (in most cases), family ties, and the like. So our daily needs are not restricted to sour dough and water, but include everything imaginable that anyone of us can and will have need for throughout our lives.

'Give ...', is the request. All things come from God. Everything that we have did not come from any other source other than God. Whether it is our own IQ, or natural physical abilities, or some special talent we have. Whether it is the household that we were born in - wooden spoon or silver. Whether it is the culture or the location on this planet where we were raised up. None of these things or circumstances came to us by our own abilities or design. We did not choose our place of birth, our color or race, our culture that we would grow up in, or even the financial conditions we would live in during our lifetime. God made all those choices at the moment of our birth. Actually He made those choices in eternity past.

During our lifetime we make our day to day choices, of course, as to what we will do with our life and that may have an affect as to where we will end up in life. But if our IQ is 50, then we cannot expect to become a rocket scientist. If we were born without a leg or two, then we probably will not be playing professional hockey.

So there are certain restrictions that we have in our life, and everyone of us has those restrictions. In the jungle, which is where the world operates, we all have disabilities, and that disability is called the sin nature and life apart from God. Unless we acknowledge God and His authority over all of creation, then we are left to our own devices in life and the jungle is greater than all of us combined.

God is faithful and provides for us each and everyday. Whether you are a believer in Christ or not, there is still divine provision. Whether you acknowledge God or not, you still receive some form of grace provision from God. To the whole of humanity there is common grace - gravity, air, sunshine, rain, agriculture, economics, marriage, family, business, legal rights, and the list continues. But in our case as believers in Christ, and especially as believers who are advancing toward spiritual maturity, there is greater grace (we'll study this in James). There is common grace for humanity, there is grace for all believers, but for mature believers, there is greater grace, and that is where we all should be in life.

Give us this day our daily bread, is a request for the divine provisions from God, the only source for everything in existence, on a daily basis. We study daily therefore we pray daily. God wishes us to ask and therefore He will provide. He will provide us with the common things that we need to survive in this world. He will provide us with the spiritual foods we need to grow up spiritually. He will provide us with the greater things the greater blessings that we would like to have in this life.

God does not take from one person to give to another. No one loses when a believer wins. Every person is a potential winner. Our greatest enemy in this life is the one looking right back at us when we look into the mirror. So you make up your own mind and follow your own decisions to their rightful conclusion. Your own provisions and eventual doom or Gods provision and eventual victory.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
