Matthew 10:34-36

Lesson # Matt. 10:34-36
Study Material - Matt. 10:34-36

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 10:34-36

34 Think [nomizo] not [me] that [hoti] I am come [erchomai] to send [ballo] peace [eirene] on [epi] earth [ge] : I came [erchomai] not [ou] to send [ballo] peace [eirene] , but [alla] a sword [machaira] .
35 For [gar] I am come [erchomai] to set [dichazo] a man [anthropos] at variance [dichazo] against [kata] his [autos] father [pater] , and [kai] the daughter [thugater] against [kata] her [autos] mother [meter] , and [kai] the daughter in law [numphe] against [kata] her [autos] mother in law [penthera] .
36 And [kai] a man's [anthropos] foes [echthros] shall be they of his own [autos] household [oikiakos] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 10:34-36

34 'Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 'For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and a man's enemies will be the members of his household. NAS

A sword and rebellion. These two result when Christianity comes into view and differences of opinion arise. Does this mean the Christianity is the trouble maker of the world? No. It is the solution to trouble makers.

What causes conflict? A difference of opinion. Christianity is the expression of Gods opinion, and everything else is an opinion in opposition.

The Jews in that day, nearly 2000 years ago, were looking for a deliverer. They wanted the knight to ride up on his white war horse and slaughter the Romans. This is not the sword that Jesus is mentioning. The Sword of Christ brings conflict between the two opinions of the world. But the resulting peace, prosperity, and rest (in their newly appointed roles in the Kingdom of God) were what those who were in opposition to Jesus, were thinking.

Man looks to God for mans convenience. 'Come here God and give me (mankind) what I want (human lusts), on my terms (human viewpoint), then go back to heaven and recognize my (mans righteousness) importance as we (mans self designed destiny) rise and evolve into something better than what we currently are.'

This 'peace' was and is not to be. Man cannot design nor guide himself through life. Man has limitations which are and always will be beyond his control. A person cannot cause himself to be born. A person cannot prevent his own death. Man cannot control the many characteristics of planet earth or of society (weather, public opinion). Man can at best, only monitor and attempt to predict.

God has a plan, and that plan is not restricted to mans physical life here on earth, but Gods plan is driven toward a destiny for man in eternity. Mans entrance into that plan must conform with Gods design for mans entrance - faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Man has his own ideas for getting himself into heaven and many of those ideas (various philosophies, religions, etc.) reject Gods Plan (Jesus Christ, fellowship, spiritual growth through study).

Since mans ideas reject Gods, since man has limited knowledge (physical, not spiritual), then man is in conflict with God, and therefore frustration will enter into the picture.

Family pictures arise. Jesus quotes Mic. 7:6, son against father, daughter against mother and so forth. This is what happens when children reject the wisdom of their parents. Man rejects the wisdom of God. This rejection brings failure into the life of the child. It brings unhappiness. It brings misery. It brings strong delusional opinions (teenagers know everything). Rebellion occurs and the child is off to their self designed destiny. They find misery, then blame their problems on everyone else.

The Christian becomes an enemy of the world by definition. The world is against God, the Christian aligns himself with God, and therefore is an enemy of the world. The world thinks nothing of the man, and even extends its hate to those around him. The world in its cruelty will pursue innocent folk just to hurt the Christian. A very good illustration of this is the hurt that terrorists cause on civilians just because they want to strike out against the establishment. Their frustrations and hate are such that they do not care who they hurt. They just want to hurt someone, anyone.

The result? This conflict turns on the attacker and destroys them. They in effect destroy themselves. The Christian (the positive believer) may be harmed, but it is temporary. Their destiny is unbelievable happiness and prosperity -a source for even further frustration and hate for those who reject God.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
