Matthew 10:40-42

Lesson # Matt. 10:40-42
Study Material - Matt. 10:40-42

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 10:40-42

40 He that receiveth [dechomai] you [humas] receiveth [dechomai] me [eme] , and [kai] he that receiveth [dechomai] me [eme] receiveth [dechomai] him that sent [apostello] me [me] .
41 He that receiveth [dechomai] a prophet [prophetes] in [eis] the name [onoma] of a prophet [prophetes] shall receive [lambano] a prophet's [prophetes] reward [misthos] ; and [kai] he that receiveth [lambano] a righteous man [dikaios] in [eis] the name [onoma] of a righteous man [dikaios] shall receive [dechomai] a righteous man's [dikaios] reward [misthos] .
42 And [kai] whosoever [hos] [ean] shall give to drink [potizo] unto one [heis] of these [touton] little ones [mikros] a cup [poterion] of cold [psuchros] water only [monon] in [eis] the name [onoma] of a disciple [mathetes] , verily [amen] I say [lego] unto you [humin] , he shall in no wise [ou me] lose [apollumi] his [autos] reward [misthos] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 10:40-42

40 'He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41 'He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. 42 'And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you he shall not lose his reward.' NAS

Blessing by association. There is a clear chain or set of links from God to man and back to God. There is only one set of links between man and God, and they must go through Jesus Christ.

There is no such thing as believing in God while at the same time rejecting Jesus Christ. We have already studied that rejecting Christ is rejecting God because in His (God the Father) plan, Jesus Christ is the principle character and we, believers in Christ, enter into that plan through our belief in Christ. And, we gain our relationship to God (the Father) by means of Christ. There is no other avenue by which we might approach God. All religions, that exclude Christ, are false religions and therefore they are distractions and traps for those who subscribe to them.

The chain is clear - believer, Christ, God. Anyone who receives the believer into their home, into their hearts will then also receive Christ. They are receiving the pattern of the spiritual life through a daily study program as we have many a time described. Any person who receives a prophet will share in the blessing of that prophet. Anyone who gives even a little drink of water to a believer will partake in the blessing of that believer.

Blessing comes into the world from God and from God alone. God gives blessing to the world in order to sustain believers only, and mature believers in particular.

Noah and his wife, his three sons and their three wives, these eight people received blessing by being delivered from the flood. No one else received blessing. Everyone else had rejected God, and they had rejected Noah. Therefore, their blessing was cut off and the waters came.

And so it is today. Everyone who reaches out a hand of generosity to believers, to prophets (pastors or teachers as it were), or just to disciples (all students of the Word - that includes us all), then they who render assistance will be recipients of blessing because of their association with believers.

If believers assist one another, then the blessing is compounded, because God blesses believers and God blesses those who help them.

By the same token, if any should ignore believers, or attempt to take advantage of them, then their blessings will be reduced. Unbelievers will be beside themselves if they reject God and reject believers. Believers who seek God but take advantage of other believers will lose out in that sharing opportunity.

The best of all worlds is to be nice to others, to assist in what ever appropriate manner possible, and to promote Gods Word in ones life and with others.

Look at the world. Whom do the poorest nations place their trust? Buddha? Allah? These are false gods. They are an attempt to seek a relationship with the Almighty Father, but they reject Christ, therefore God does not recognize these paths of faith.

Look at the very prosperous nations of the world. To whom do they place their faith? Jesus Christ. Where Christ is in the life, there also is prosperity. The USA is tremendously prosperous, and the world hates us for it. But they do not hate the USA, they hate God, and that is their stumbling block. Anyone who believes in Christ will become prosperous to some degree. Certainly they will be far better off than they would be if they continued to reject Christ.

But there are those who have believed in Christ at some point in their life, and then they went sour on life and on God. These will be blessed to the extent that they associate with other positive believers. There are many kinds of association. Living in the USA will bring blessing by just living here. Even the very poor in our country are far better off than the well to do in other countries. Working for a Christian employer. Being married to a Christian spouse. Carrying on a social life with other Christians. Living in a Christian city. Having positive believers work for you. This list of associations can go on and on forever. When you rub elbows with the blessed, it rubs of onto you. Not so in the jungle, though that might be a predominant thought of the jungle (who you know, where you live, contacts, connections), it is a false presumption.

In the Christian life it is a true concept, however, when the 'who,' is Jesus Christ.

All reward and blessing comes from God. All reward and blessing come from God, through Jesus Christ. There is only one pipeline to earth, from heaven. That pipe ends up on earth only at one destination - each mature or positive believer in Christ.

So if you really want to enhance your life, line up with positive believers. Not well to do believers, but positive believers. And to do even better in life, then get positive and get with a program of your own daily Bible study.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
