Matthew 11:4-6

Lesson # Matt. 11:4-6
Study Material - Matt. 11:4-6

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 11:4-6

4 Jesus [Iesous] answered [apokrinomai] and [kai] said [epo] unto them [autos] , Go [poreuomai] and shew [apaggello] John [Ioannes] again [apaggello] those things which [hos] ye do hear [akouo] and [kai] see [blepo] :
5 The blind [tuphlos] receive their sight [anablepo] , and [kai] the lame [cholos] walk [peripateo] , the lepers [lepros] are cleansed [katharizo] , and [kai] the deaf [kophos] hear [akouo] , the dead [nekros] are raised up [egeiro] , and [kai] the poor [ptochos] have the gospel preached to them [euaggelizo] .
6 And [kai] blessed [makarios] is [esti] he, whosoever [hos] shall [skandalizo] not [ean me] be offended [skandalizo] in [en] me [emoi] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 11:4-6

4 And Jesus answered and said to them, 'Go and report to John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 'And blessed is he who keeps from stumbling over Me.' NAS

Christ answered John, through his (john's (disciples or followers if you will). He also answered John through the knowledge that John already possessed. It is apparent that John already knew the answer. He has been in prison for some time and that has had to have taken an emotional toll on him. That combined with the rumors and therefore uncertainty, that he was to be executed sooner or later, would frazzle anyone.

Christ has come right out and stated to others (unbelievers) that He was indeed the Son of God. That God the Father was His Father, and that access to the Father could only be obtained through Him (Jesus). Unbelievers need direct confirmation. Believers with some knowledge, with some spiritual growth such that they have advanced far enough to be now involved in some form or tremendous pressure in life, need only assurance, and assurance from the knowledge that they already possess. Babies need crutches. Adults need only be pointed in the right direction to recover. Their sense of responsibility carries them through the pressure.

One of the objectives of your spiritual life is to make you autonomous and independent from this world. Dependency on the world leads to the need for shrinks, for the constant need for reassurance or advice from others, for the use of others as crutches in life. Bible doctrine should sooner or later relieve you of this need and free you, and make you independent and a self thinking individual. 'This (Bible doctrine) I recall to mind, therefore I have hope (confidence).'

But we all fall into a trap of despair from time to time. Life can be a powerful pressure cooker, and when it persists on and on for months or even years, then our strength can only come from our spiritual growth. We recall the verses and principles of doctrine we have been taught, and they carry us through the nightmare.

The problems people have are when they never learned the doctrines in the first place. Life is rosy and they have no need for God, or no need to study in a consistent fashion. Then disaster strikes without warning and the unprepared, are not ready. Their life falls apart and if the disaster continues for an extended period of time, then they become depressed or angry or bitter, and learning doctrine during times of trouble is much more difficult. More difficult in that there may no interest in learning (an attitude barrier), or the convenient opportunity just is not there as when it was during times of prosperity.

For those who have implemented a steady and regular daily Bible study in their life, for those who adhere to the principles they learn and indeed actually grow up spiritually (being in fellowship regularly for example), then when disaster does strike, they will be ready.

We do not know the future. We cannot see around the corner. Recent events around the country and around the world should teach us that at least. Unknown trouble is out there lurking and it might be headed straight for us. So better to understand it and be prepared for it, than to ignore it and then not be ready when it really does strike.

Trouble might not even crop up in your life. For that blessing then, you will be used (by God) to help others in some fashion (perhaps financially to promote His Word, perhaps in some other way). But then trouble just might be on your list of experiences and you all should be prepared regardless if trouble becomes a reality or just a possibility.

Either way, doubt, when it enters into your mind and tries to destabilize your life, needs to be dealt with through the recall of Bible doctrine. Look back to what you have learned. Memorize verses now, such that you might be able to recall them later when under pressure.

'This (doctrine) I recall to mind. Therefore I have hope (confidence). It is through the Lords mercies (grace in action) that we are not consumed. They are new every morning. Great is Thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion says my soul (maturity), therefore I have confidence (trust) in Him.'

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
