Matthew 11:28

Lesson # Matt. 11:28
Study Material - Matt. 11:28

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 11:28

28 Come [deute] unto [pros] me [me] , all [pas] ye that labour [kopiao] and [kai] are heavy laden [phortizo] , and I [kago] will give [anapauo] you [humas] rest [anapauo] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 11:28

28 'Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. NAS

The call for repentance, 'Come to Me.' This requires a change of ones mind. A change from the worldly view of life - business, religions, philosophies, science and technology, government, society in general, and all that focus of the 'good' of mankind and the 'potential' of mankind, and the 'evolution' of man to some higher level such that man might reach out a touch Gods hand by means of mans efforts, and therefore gain Gods approval for mans 'coming of age.' These beliefs have to be put behind, and replaced with Gods viewpoint of life.

Gods viewpoint has been explained. Jesus Christ is the only one who has known the Father. No one else has even seen the Father. There is no other means of access than through Jesus Christ. Likewise, God gives to man a mechanism and a path in which man might receive (from God) the grace of a potential relationship with God. Here is where the physical world and the spiritual world connect.

On Gods side, grace is extended to man. On mans side, faith is extended to connect with grace. The two link through the person of Jesus Christ.

The weariness is an internal burden from which man seeks to attain eternal life, or rest, or the meaning of life. Man looks to religions (all philosophies which supposedly represent their access to God). Man looks to science (all mechanisms that offer the rational that God either does not exist and that we are out here in the universe by accident, or mechanisms which imply that man will eventually discover through science the secrets of the universe and therefore attain a higher plane of existence). Man looks to guru's for the explanation of life and find it in humming little tunes, or find it intuitively in smaller animals (worms and such). Or man is simply too busy to care about, or be concerned with God. After all there are those who have better ideas (than God has) as to how to conduct their lives!!

The heavy laden aspect refers to the external burden of mans quest for the ultimate truth. Man wears himself out with the mental aspects and the overt aspects of life in his attempt to seek God, or just something better than what man has. This applies to the entire human race. We are all burdened from birth. Our burden is the trap of sin and death. No matter how far along one might be in the evolutionary scale, the burdens of sin and death cannot be escaped. You cannot freeze yourself at death in hopes for a cure to aging or some disease in the future then expect to be brought back to life to be cured. Once dead, you are out of the game. Eternity is your next event.

Rest has two meanings. The first rest is that which replaces ones efforts to find and receive salvation. God gives that to us freely. Believe in Jesus Christ and be saved. A simple thought which takes at most a few seconds and you are saved from eternal condemnation forever. Not much work there. The next rest is that which you attain from advancing to spiritual maturity. Listening and learning on a regular basis. No much work there either.

Rest means freedom from the burdens that this world places on you. The Priesthood of Jessu' day, had so turned upside down the Mosaic Law, that is had become a burden of everyone's life. There were rules and regulations for virtually every aspect of life. You could not blink an eye in the wrong manner for fear that someone might see you do it and might turn you in for some violation. The penalties for violations of the Lawe were ludicrous and often excessively unforgiving.

Life places burdens on us. Peer pressure, social pressure, the where you live or what you wear or what you drive pressure. The where you went to school, or even what you do for a living pressure. The pressure of your color or culture. 'Are you one of us or aren't you?', pressure. The world seeks to place biased standards on people, in order to make sure that only those who are 'worthy' in the worlds eyes may be selected for the 'higher' stations in life.

Through Gods plan, these burdens are canceled out. God is fair. Everyone has an equal opportunity to salvation and spiritual growth. No one is left out. God does all the work. Man is merely the recipient of Gods gift.

The first characteristic man needs to get into the plan of God - humility and an orientation of dependence. The second things is revelation - listen and hear and learn. The third is faith - believe it. The fourth is repentance and rest - change your mind and let God do all the work. The fifth characteristic will be in tomorrow's lesson.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
