Matthew 14:18-21

Lesson # Matt. 14:18-21
Study Material - Matt. 14:18-21

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 14:18-21

18 [de] He said [epo] , Bring [phero] them [autos] hither [hode] to me [moi] .

20 And [kai] they did [phago] all [pas] eat [phago] , and [kai] were filled [chortazo] : and [kai] they took up [airo] of the fragments [klasma] that remained [perisseuo] twelve [dodeka] baskets [kophinos] full [pleres] .
21 And [de] they that had eaten [esthio] were [en] about [hosei] five thousand [pentakischilioi] men [aner] , beside [choris] women [gune] and [kai] children [paidion] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 14:18-21

18 And He said, 'Bring them here to Me.' 19 And ordering the multitudes to recline on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitudes, 20 and they all ate, and were satisfied. And they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets. 21 And there were about five thousand men who ate, aside from women and children. NAS

God is the source of all things. God does all the work. Man reclines and is the source of nothing. 'Bring them (the food) to Me.' All things must approach and be brought to Christ in accordance with His will, before they are blessed. The Father issues the ultimate blessing, but blessing comes from the Father only through Christ. There is none other in or under heaven by which we may approach or have access to God. Jesus Christ is the only door through which we may enter and gain access to God.

Christ ordered all to recline on the plush thick grass. Such is mans role in history. When man tries to add his two cents worth to history, things get all botched up. Just as the Pharisees added endless lists of regulations to the Mosaic Law, and so too politicians add and have added endless laws and regulations to the lives of all of mankind, an so too man has added endless rules of conduct in fluctuating social norms and standards, so mankind had increased the burdens on man and mans life here on earth. A person can't go anywhere or do anything without insulting someone or some tradition or culture.

Mans place in history is to lie down and do nothing as it were. God provides everything and gives generously to all.

Jesus broke up the food into twelve parts and had the disciples distribute it to all. As the baskets were distributed, they became increasingly fuller. Beginning with nothing (almost nothing), the original single basket ended with twelve full baskets and all were fed.

Christ had been teaching all day long. And for that matter, He had been teaching for days and days. Now here is the test. When there is little and when there is an inability to do something about ones situation, then what do you do? Who do you call? And don't say ghost busters either!!!

Christ is always there at the head of the crowd. He is always within reach and access. We only limit our access to Christ through our own lack of application of doctrine and/or lack of making proper decisions.

All the disciples had to do was to bring their request to Christ. Christ had been healing everyone of every human ailment imaginable. Her is the one who claims to be the Son of God, the Second Person of the Trinity, the Creator of the universe. Don't you suppose He could see the situation and produce food enough for all? All they had to do was ask Jesus to provide food for the crowd (Lord heal me), rather than leaning on their human viewpoint. The crowd had been making their requests for months now and had never been denied even once. But human viewpoint always lingers in the minds of people (there isn't enough for all).

The Pharisees would have taken the food for themselves and maybe a select few of their choosing. After all they are the religious leaders and if they starve then the people would have no leadership. If the select few did not eat then there would be no one to continue the masses. The masses would have been just out of luck - besides it is for the better good!!! This is human viewpoint. The Pharisees did it. Politicians do it. Crusaders for many causes in the world do it. Self righteous peoples in any organization (political, business, social, etc.) do it to preserve their own positions. If there is a shortage, then it must be Gods will!!! And so the human view perpetuates itself in self centeredness.

We all have but three responsibilities in life.

First to our spiritual growth to maturity. That is the position which brings the maximum blessing into this world - through the mature believer. God is the origin, and doctrine in the soul is the target of that blessing.

Second, we have a responsibility to help others. This is charity. Through mature believers, blessing flows to all the rest of the world - the unbelieving world, the negative world such that they will become positive and become more conduits for even more blessing.

Third, the spread of Bible doctrine is the ultimate challenge and requires support and promotion, therefore the support, of Bible teaching, is expected from all. Support can come in many forms. Most support financially. Some support through volunteer efforts. Some support by teaching or instruction, and so forth.

All three responsibilities require a sacrifice of something - either in time or money or effort. None are optional. None come only at the convenience of the individual, but require a conscious commitment.

Few answer this call. Most choose to conveniently ignore their responsibilities. 'I read my Bible. What more is expected of me? After all, there just isn't enough to pay the bills and to help others too.' And so each person writes his own evaluation for Christ to read at His Judgment Seat.

God can provide anything required of man. God can replace anything man uses up or gives away. Man has but to change his own attitude, learn Bible doctrine, and grow up.

Only two individuals have had an opportunity to look into heaven and remain here on earth - Paul and John. Paul was told to never reveal what he had seen. Paul never did. John was told to write what he saw and we read that in Revelation. The blessings in heaven are beyond imagination. The resources we have at our disposal are beyond imagination, but because people get stuck in their attitudes of self imposed limitations ('I can't', 'I'm not able', 'That is impossible', 'They won't let me', The world is against me'), then people never see those blessings in their lives.

Look into the mirror and you'll see your greatest hindrance to life. Color is never a problem for God. Finance is never a problem for God. Education, health, geographical region, nothing is a problem for God. God is capable of doing anything and everything despite mans situation.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
