Matthew 15:12-14

Lesson # Matt. 15:12-14
Study Material - Matt. 15:12-14

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 15:12-14

12 Then [tote] came [proserchomai] his [autos] disciples [mathetes] , and said [epo] unto him [autos] , Knowest thou [eido] that [hoti] the Pharisees [Pharisaios] were offended [skandalizo] , after they heard [akouo] this saying [logos] ?
13 But [de] he answered [apokrinomai] and said [epo] , Every [pas] plant [phuteia] , which [hos] my [mou] heavenly [ouranios] Father [pater] hath [phuteuo] not [ou] planted [phuteuo] , shall be rooted up [ekrizoo] .
14 Let [aphiemi] them [autos] alone [aphiemi] : they be [eisi] blind [tuphlos] leaders [hodegos] of the blind [tuphlos] . And [de] if [ean] the blind [tuphlos] lead [hodegeo] the blind [tuphlos] , both [amphoteros] shall fall [pipto] into [eis] the ditch [bothunos] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 15:12-14

12 Then the disciples came and said to Him, 'Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?' 13 But He answered and said, 'Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up. 14 'Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.' NAS

Truth is the orientation of facts with reality. When facts are rejected, then reality is distorted. People make up their own reality in their own minds. They are in effect blind. They fabricate out of nothing their false beliefs. Their false beliefs become so real, and are so disoriented to reality, that these hypocrites think more of their simple rituals (washing their hands - in the proper way of course. Fasting on certain days of the week), then they think of the compassion's and concerns needed for the masses of people they should be caring for. It is more important to the hypocrite, that others see to 'their' needs and that others comply with their standards, than the responsibilities that hypocrites have to others.

The hypocrite then is self centered and selfish. Their concerns surround their own desires and motives in life rather than their responsibilities for others.

The hypocrite is superficial and shallow. Lacking any truth, they have no depth in their beliefs. Little unimportant things become mountains. Mountains become inconsequential.

The hypocrite is easily offended. They reject truth, and reject any opinion contrary to their own. They will debate and argue their false position regardless of the lack of authority of their false philosophy. Their positions lack credibility, lack any kind of foundation in truth, because they are based on emotional and self centered motives.

Jesus warns his disciples and also us, to stay clear of this type of person (let them alone). Avoid getting caught up in their debates, 1 Tim. 6:20. To pursue these people or even to associate with them on a social level will get you burned, Jude 23. Stay clear of them lest their attitude might bring you down in your own spiritual life and you risk losing all the spiritual things that you have gained, 2 Jn. 8-11.

These people are the tares (unbelievers) of the world. They are planted in amongst the wheat (believers) and allowed to grow up until the end of the age. At the end of human history, they will be collected by the angels and then thrown into the Lake of Fire.

Jesus did not debate with them. They were not interested in learning anything. Jesus pointed out their fallacy and there hypocrisy, then Jesus moved on. No sense wasting time on those who are hard core negative and will never change. Jesus changed the subject. Washing is not an issue in life, faith in Christ and the fellowship concept are by far more important issues.

At the end of His trials, Jesus spokes no words. There was nothing more to be said. When people are negative to the extreme, they have made up their minds. They live in the dark, and never will see the light of truth. They don't even search for it.

They are dangers not only to themselves, but they lead others (naive) down the path of destruction with their false philosophies. The blind leading the blind.

In the time of Jesus, pits were dug in the fields and filed with water for the live stock. A person walking in the country, if blind, would not see the pit and could very well fall into it. Such is the spiritual nature of those who reject God. They are blind and walking blind through life. The pit is their destiny in eternity - the Lake of Fire. They know that it is out there, but just do not believe that they will fall into it. So they race through life with their eyes closed, and just as a blind man racing through fields, they will eventually (the end of their life) fall into a pit.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
