Matthew 15:37-39

Lesson # Matt. 15:37-39
Study Material - Matt. 15:37-39

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 15:37-39

37 And [kai] they did [phago] all [pas] eat [phago] , and [kai] were filled [chortazo] : and [kai] they took up [airo] of the broken [klasma] meat that was left [perisseuo] seven [hepta] baskets [spuris] full [pleres] .

39 And [kai] he sent away [apoluo] the multitude [ochlos] , and took [embaino] ship [eis] [ploion] , and [kai] came [erchomai] into [eis] the coasts [horion] of Magdala [Magdala] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 15:37-39

37 And they all ate, and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large baskets full. 38 And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 And sending away the multitudes, He got into the boat, and came to the region of Magadan. NAS

Here we will summarize some of the lessons of this chapter, and the stupidity and narrow mindedness of those who reject God.

First, Jesus has a deep compassion for those in the human race. Without condition, without strings, He provides enough for all to be satisfied, with no expectations of anything being returned to Himself.

Second, Jesus is all powerful. Out of virtually nothing (seven loaves and several fish) He created enough food to feed many thousands of people. People who had not eaten for several days. And all ate until they were totally satisfied.

Third, He demonstrated that His power was by far greater than anything mankind could muster at anytime in history. He healed all diseases. He cures all illnesses. He brought sight to eyes that could not see. He brought sound to ears that could not hear. He brought functionality back to bodies that were paralyzed. He restored limbs that were either missing or mutilated. All this He did without any technology, without any earthly education, without any human credentials. He is of course God and doesn't depend on human means or resources.

Fourth, Christ demonstrates that divine resources and solutions are far superior to human resources and solutions. Human solutions depend on mans advancement in human knowledge, trial and error in new techniques, and even then many solutions are limited at best. Human solutions depend on mans application of whatever resources are available to mankind. Often that application is tied to human bias, prejudice, politics, even economics is a limitation. The rich have access to far more than do the poor.

Divine solutions are equally available to all regardless of race, color, or economic or geographical situations. God withholds nothing from anyone who approaches Him. Gods solutions are limitless. With man there is only so much to go around (seven loaves). With God there is no limit, no quota. Everyone gets all that they need.

Jesus Christ controls history. Jesus Christ controls history in three ways. Directly, indirectly, and with His permission. Directly God created the universe. He created enough food for all in the crowd. Indirectly He used the disciples to distribute the food. He could very well have distributed it Himself, but He used the disciples to make the rounds, and they did so voluntarily. Indirectly, God used believers to do His will and thus accomplishes His purpose through believers. Permissively, God allows the free will of mankind to function. He allows man to make decisions even if they are wrong decisions. He allows the Pharisees to reject Him. He does not force them to reject Him, He simply allows them to make up their own minds and to carry out the actions they are determined to carryout. All actions that are carried out in history are actions that further Gods plan in history. He never allows actions of evil to take over and run history. Sooner or later He puts the brakes on evil. The Pharisees sent Christ to the Cross. Jesus Christ allowed this because it furthered human history according to Gods will - salvation was accomplished. At other times in history God will allow evil to advance in order to do one of three things - first to execute judgment against other evil in the world. Second, to punish believers who are negative and who need a tough lesson. Third to provide a lesson to future generations that going against Gods Will, will only result in greater misery in the world, and that if evil is not placed in check, then mans wage for not countering evil is mans own punishment and even greater suffering will result. By the way, to the informed, evil is readily identifiable (how many proofs does one need? Bring any current event to mind?). And I guess you could add a fourth reason for evil to advance, and that is to demonstrate just how gullible mankind is as man embraces evil in the face of overwhelming proof that it is bad. Man often gets what man deserves.

Last then, all that man gives back to God is returned to man by even greater blessings. The seven loaves and few fish were given to Christ. With them, He fed the entire group, and seven large baskets of leftovers were returned. These baskets were larger baskets than were used in the previous feeding. Those baskets were small enough for one person to easily carry and could hold just a few meals. These baskets, were two man baskets, large enough to carry a grown person, and seven of these were used to gather all the food that was still good and not consumed by the people.

So, in ones life, if you dedicate yourself to God, you will never come up short. Too often people have the excuse that they do not have time for Bible study. They would better spend their time doing other things, things that seem to bring them more in life, and that is a false conclusion. Bible study brings more to your life, both now and in eternity, than any of us can imagine. And Bible study will provide you with greater opportunities in life. More than you would accomplish through anything you could do on your own.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
