Matthew 16:22-23

Lesson # Matt. 16:22-23
Study Material - Matt. 16:22-23

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 16:22-23

22 Then [kai] Peter [Petros] took [proslambano] him [autos] , and began [archomai] to rebuke [epitimao] him [autos] , saying [lego] , Be it far [hileos] from thee [soi] , Lord [kurios] : this [touto] shall [esomai] not [ou me] be [esomai] unto thee [soi] .
23 But [de] he turned [strepho] , and said [epo] unto Peter [Petros] , Get thee [hupago] behind [opiso] me [mou] , Satan [Satanas] : thou [ei] art [hoti] an offence [skandalon] unto me [mou] : for thou savourest [phroneo] not [ou] the things [ho] that be of God [theos] , but [alla] those that be of men [anthropos] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 16:22-23

22 And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, 'God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.' 23 But He turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's.' NAS

In life there are two opinions - Gods and mans. We have said this many times, and will continue to make this statement. Too often people hear the words but they carry no meaning. No meaning simply means no connection to reality. What is truth? That point where facts meet reality.

Again, there are but two opinions in this universe. Gods is truth - that is where facts meet reality. Satan's opinion amounts to nothing but lies - where facts do not meet reality.

Satan is the father of lies, Jn. 8:44, 'You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.'

Peter must have been shocked. On the one hand he is described as a rock. A rock of a type from which the Church (a spiritual organization of God) would be created. And now he is described as a proponent of Satan. A real ego blaster.

Peter offered only good, honorable, loving, compassionate, sincere intentions, but these intentions were based not on knowledge of facts, were not based on knowledge of orientation to life, but based on emotion. Emotions often drive us in the wrong direction, especially when emotions replace good common sense.

Peter has been with Jesus now for many months. What kind of a relationship did he have? Well, he could obviously walk up to Him and rebuke Him. This word for rebuke meaning nothing negative but positive. That is to say, nothing bad should happen to Him, but only good things should happen to the Lord. If Peter could walk up to Jesus as you would a very good friend and make comments (and this rebuke was not a single comment but a repetition of objections) as he did, then they must have had a very good and close relationship. Such is the nature of God. Remember that Jesus is in fact God n the flesh. The creator of the universe. The one who walked with Adam in the Garden. Carried on conversations with Noah, with Abraham, with Moses, etc. And here is Peter objecting to what Jesus said 'must' happen. Thus contradicting Jesus' words.

Peters words were more of a knee jerk reaction. Peter did not desire anything bad to happen to Jesus. Peter has come to deeply admire Him, and recognizes His true identity. Peter just let his emotions get ahead of his common sense, and he let his emotions replace knowledge of Gods plan for humanity.

We were not placed on this planet earth to walk around with Jesus and feel good about life. We were placed here to decide the angelic conflict. Mankind had a beginning and will have an end. Human history will end not in the stars of human adventure and exploration, but right here on earth at the end of the reign of Christ at the end of the Millennium, which is in the future.

Likewise this squabbling over Iraq is not merely nations attempting to make the world safer, and the debate over how to accomplish that end, but is the shaping of regions of power and the establishing of precedent for future generations, in accordance with Gods plan, as He aligns nations for the inevitable positions they will hold when the Rapture occurs.

We cannot look at history in the short term, a decade or so, but over the total picture presented by the dispensation of our Church Age. As God has for these last almost 2000 years, aligned nations and spheres of power, positioning them in regions separated by mountains, oceans, cultures and so forth in order to preserve humanity, to spread His Word, to build up a Bride for Christ (we the Royal Family), and finally to have everything in place when the Rapture actually does occur. That, the Rapture, is the next big event in human history, according to Gods plan.

As for each one of us? We do not carry the headlines, do not make the historical decisions, will not generally become known to humanity. We just live our life, study our Bibles, grow up spiritually and become a the target of Gods blessing. We learn our responsibilities to God, self, and mankind. We remain out of the spot light as the world swirls around us, and continue on or individual spiritual course toward the great things that God has set aside for each one of us in eternity. Simultaneously, the world runs endlessly in its circle of human wisdom and confusion, thinking it is setting its own destiny, but in fact is following a very detailed preset plan which God Decreed long ago in eternity past.

The heavens are higher than this earth (something that should be obvious to all), therefore Gods wisdom is similarly higher than mans best ability.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
