Matthew 17:1-2

Lesson # Matt. 17:1-2
Study Material - Matt. 17:1-2

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 17:1-2

1 And [kai] after [meta] six [hex] days [hemera] Jesus [Iesous] taketh [paralambano] Peter [Petros] [kai] , James [Iakobos] , and [kai] John [Ioannes] his [autos] brother [adelphos] , and [kai] bringeth [anaphero] them [autos] up [anaphero] into [eis] an high [hupselos] mountain [oros] apart [kata] [idios] ,
2 And [kai] was transfigured [metamorphoo] before [emprosthen] them [autos] : and [kai] his [autos] face [prosopon] did shine [lampo] as [hos] the sun [helios] , and [de] his [autos] raiment [himation] was [ginomai] white [leukos] as [hos] the light [phos] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 17:1-2

1 And six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and brought them up to a high mountain by themselves. 2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. NAS

Sometimes in life, God brings events so dazzling or so traumatic into our life, so as to wake us up and to get us on track in what is important in life. Some respond to these personal events and come around for the rest of their life. Some come around with temporary emotional responses and then the emotions wear off and they go back to their old ways of living. Still others just never get it. They look at life's events as either a matter of pure luck or good fortune in the case of good things, or of just bad luck or something to complain about in the case of bad events in their life.

But we continue to harp on the same old things in this study in order to get people who are interested or even border line interested in their spiritual life, to wake up to the really important issues in life. Namely their spiritual life. Everything else in life means nothing.

God has a plan for human history, and here Jesus gave these three disciples a peek into the future, and into His genuine glory. Jesus can say things but He always backs up His words with proof or demonstrated power and authority. Here three witnesses will see and therefore be able to confirm His revealed glory, Deu. 19:15. A glory that was so awesome and overwhelming that the three fell asleep, Lk. 9:32

Right before their eyes, Jesus was transformed into His divine glory. This further bears out His true identity as the Son of God. That no matter what comes in the next few months (the Cross), that Jesus Christ will live to be glorified, and after His glorification He will rule forever.

There is a termination to mans history. Christ will rule in the future, not man. One exception to that is our participation in the shared rulership as members of the Royal Family. We are in union with Christ and joint heirs with Him. See the notes on 'Blessings' from the Index page.

Don't worry about history - Iraq, North Korea and such. Don't worry about your personal problems in life. These are all under control from Gods perspective. History is driving toward the next great event which is the Rapture of the Church. If bad guys try to advance their own desires on history, than God reels them in and they fail. God allows only that which will lead to the structure of nations which will eventually exist when the Tribulation begins. If the world requires a lesson in discipline or judgment due to a massive negative attitude toward God, therefore placing in jeopardy mans future, then God does or allows what is necessary to discipline or judge those who need it. God often allows shocking events to help wake society up, or to demonstrate that society has drifted away from reality, and is in need of a reality check.

This happens to each one of us in our personal life. Sometimes we need a reality check. Some of us get little nudges, others of us require pretty hard belts up beside the head in order to get our attention (the mule principle).

In a prosperous society picking and choosing that which we will follow and that which we will not follow, is common. The spiritual life is not a cafeteria from which we may choose what we will accept and what we will ignore. The spiritual life is all inclusive and lest we ignore various responsibilities in our spiritual life, then we can expect fully some form of trouble in our lives.

Jesus was transfigured before their eyes. The Bible is truth. It is real. This is not just a story from which we get good feelings from time to time. This is not just a source of good movie scripts - Samson, Moses, etc. This does not simply apply to 'everyone else.' The Bible reveals to us the truth. The first truth is our status in life and where we may end up if we don't get with a serious program of Bible study. Being negative or even lukewarm will leave us in misery in this life and greatly disappointed in the next life.

One day we too will see the Glory of Christ. Don't wait until that day to finally realize (to late) what you should have done during this life, when you have every opportunity 'now' to grow up spiritually and to comply with Gods command to 'obey' His Word.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
