Matthew 18:10b-11

Lesson # Matt. 18:10b-11
Study Material - Matt. 18:10b-11

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 18:10b-11

10 Take heed [horao] that ye despise [kataphroneo] not [me] one [heis] of these [touton] little ones [mikros] ; for [gar] I say [lego] unto you [humin] , That [hoti] in [en] heaven [ouranos] their [autos] angels [aggelos] do always [dia] [pas] behold [blepo] the face [prosopon] of my [mou] Father [pater] which [ho] is in [en] heaven [ouranos] .
11 For [gar] the Son [huios] of man [anthropos] is come [erchomai] to save [sozo] that which [ho] was lost [apollumi] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 18:10b-11

10 'See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you, that their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father who is in heaven. 11 ['For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.] NAS

The subject is the 'little ones.' This is a reference to believers in Christ, those who have believed in Christ through faith and not by some other form of human reason or logic. As with little children, the things of the world are far beyond their little minds. They lack comprehension. They lack understanding. Little children (we are still talking of a class of children which is pre-toddler) just know and trust. They are not competitive nor do they have aspirations of grandeur for their little life.

Those aspirations were the very thing that brought this whole lesson about. The disciples were 'arguing' over which of them would be the 'greater' in heaven.

So it is in the spiritual life. We have great technology in our current day, but we cannot measure nor even detect angels. We cannot measure nor even detect the soul (EEG and EKG are good evidence that a soul exists, but they are not the soul).

Ones lusts for greater things are a distraction from the spiritual life. We have no means of doing what God has done. We cannot even comprehend the magnitude of all that God has done for us. Nor even all that God is. Yet there are many (self centered) who strongly desire to elevate themselves over all others - and for what purpose? Why would anyone want to be greater than others? In order to be recognized by others, to feed the pride, to feed the ego, and nothing more. There is no purpose served by having anyone arbitrarily elevated over others, in eternity. Remember that in order to elevate ones self means that others must be lowered. Mans lust is merely the arbitrary desire of man for something to which man has no right.

Now the angels. 'Their' is a reference to the subject - believers. This is a collective term. 'Their' angels are those angels who serve Gods bidding in behalf of mankind. Angels are constantly coming and going between heaven and earth. Recall Jacob's 'ladder' dream, Gen. 28:12. Angels observe, recall the warning Nebuchadnezzar received in the book of Daniel, Dan. 4. Angels confirm judgments, also from the Nebuchadnezzar story. Angels come to the aid of believers in times of great trouble, 2 Kg. 6:17.

All these things and more, angels do at Gods direction. Angels sit in heaven in the constant presence of God. They are content to the maximum. They are eager to do Gods bidding. They have no ulterior motives or personal agenda's. Angels have been around in history for a long time. They were the first to be created. They witnessed the creation of the universe. They witnessed the fall of Lucifer and the opportunities and final decision given by God to all angels. They witnessed Satan's disruption and destruction of the universe. They witnessed the restoration of planet earth and the creation of the last creature - mankind. They have witnessed all of human history and the various maneuvers of Satan and the grace of God and the unfolding of Gods plan. They observe with great eagerness in order to learn, 1 Pet. 1:12, and they serve mankind in accordance with Gods will.

Right now, angels are far superior to us 'hew-mons.' They are far smarter. They can travel the stars with great speed. They can be among us without detection. Yet they have none of the desires that were demonstrated by the arguing of the disciples. 'Who will be the greater?'

Mans purpose in this life is not to strive for position, but for wisdom. Mans purpose in this life is not to strive for notoriety, but to grow up in their spiritual life. Mans purpose in this life is not to pursue a quest for earthly wealth, but to advance to spiritual maturity, and from that (spiritual maturity) God will provide all that each one of us needs, and He will provide in such a manner as to make our life complete and His Plan advance toward its intended conclusion.

God came here to save mankind, not to create positions in some earthly government, not to create pedestals for man to stand on and glisten before all others to observe, not to build empires, not to build reputations, not to fulfill your sin nature based desires, not to run history in accordance with mans wishes.

God (Jesus Christ) controls history and history will run in accordance with God the Fathers plan. History is unfolding right now over in Iraq. Perhaps the end result of all of this will be the elimination of terrorists and thus the perpetuation of peace (relative peace) for the rest of this century. We know that the next big historical event in Gods timeline is the Rapture. We know that evil always attempts to cut short or send history off into another direction. But, God always provides that which is necessary to keep history on track. Whatever the outcome of these events or any event in history, ours is not to relate our life to history, but to relate our life to our destiny - spiritual maturity and our life in eternity. God will take care of all the little details.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
