Matthew 19:11-12

Lesson # Matt. 19:11-12
Study Material - Matt. 19:11-12

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 19:11-12

11 But [de] he said [epo] unto them [autos] , All [pas] men cannot [ou] receive [choreo] this [touton] saying [logos] , save [alla] they to whom [hos] it is given [didomi] .
12 For [gar] there are [eisi] some eunuchs [eunouchos] , which [hostis] were so [houto] born [gennao] from [ek] their mother's [meter] womb [koilia] : and [kai] there are [eisi] some eunuchs [eunouchos] , which [hostis] were made eunuchs [eunouchizo] of [hupo] men [anthropos] : and [kai] there be [eisi] eunuchs [eunouchos] , which [hostis] have made [eunouchizo] themselves [heautou] eunuchs [eunouchizo] for [dia] the kingdom [basileia] of heaven's sake [ouranos] . He that is able [dunamai] to receive [choreo] it, let him receive [choreo] it. KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 19:11-12

11 But He said to them, 'Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 'For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it.' NAS

Remaining single is not for all. Getting married is not for all. But all relationships whether through singleness or marriage, when approached in accordance with Gods design for human interaction, will be blessed. But if Gods design is ignored, then unhappiness, misery, frustration, anger, hate, problems galore will abound.

This is true with the spiritual life. All have an opportunity to live by Gods will, but too often people just want to live by their own standards and maybe include some of Gods standards just to ease the guilt a little and maybe make the proper appearances for social acceptance.

For those who wish to marry, then they need to put aside the false ideas and practices they have inherited from humanly devised approaches to relationships, or un-scriptural traditions. In other words, accept what God has been teaching as God's Word and live accordingly.

Many single Christians endure frustration, temptations, loneliness, and so forth because, for one reason or another, they intentionally avoid marriage. They hop from one relationship to another always seeking something (some ill defined goal of happiness, satisfaction, or accomplishment, but never finding it). Others are more concerned about a mate's looks or pocket book, rather than character. Some don't want anyone around who might invade and disrupt their selfish world. Still others may be looking for the 'perfect' mate, someone who measures up in every detail to their vision of the perfect husband or wife. Others, like certain religious orders, have the mistaken belief that there is spiritual merit in celibacy and choose singleness as a means of gaining God's favor through self-sacrifice. This is their public appearance, and in private they practice all manner of abuse on children or members of the same or other sex. But singleness based on any such concepts doom one to a life of disappointment and unhappiness.

On the other side of the coin there are those to whom remaining single is better. Of these, Jesus lists three categories. First are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb. These are people who are born with congenital deformities that involve undeveloped sexual capacity. Second are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, such as were male harem guards of that day. In some ancient religions, castration was considered a way of pleasing and serving a pagan deity, and parents sometimes had their infant sons castrated for that purpose. Third are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Unlike the first two forms, this one is not physical. Mutilation of the flesh in order to please God is a purely pagan idea. Jesus is speaking of the voluntary celibacy of those 'choose' that way of life. Celibate singleness is a kind of spiritual gift, 1 Cor 7:7, and only those to whom it has been given can hope to spiritually survive in it.

If you do not fit into one of these three categories (and most of us do not), then you are faced with either living in the burning lust of sexual sin, or of getting married and thus escaping the sin lusts of the flesh, 1 Cor. 7:8-9.

In either case marriage or singleness is not the path to a fulfilled or spiritual life, or a path to a successful relationship with a partner for life. Only faith in Christ followed by living by the spirit (fellowship), Gal. 5:16, can bring the completeness that God had designed for each married couple. Taking shortcuts in life, or rationalizing alternative approaches to relationships will always end up in failure.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
