Matthew 19:27-29

Lesson # Matt. 19:27-29
Study Material - Matt. 19:27-29

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 19:27-29

27 Then [tote] answered [apokrinomai] Peter [Petros] and said [epo] unto him [autos] , Behold [idou] , we [hemeis] have forsaken [aphiemi] all [pas] , and [kai] followed [akoloutheo] thee [soi] ; what [tis] shall we [hemin] have [esomai] therefore [ara] ?
28 And [de] Jesus [Iesous] said [epo] unto them [autos] , Verily [amen] I say [lego] unto you [humin] , That [hoti] ye [humeis] which [ho] have followed [akoloutheo] me [moi] , in [en] the regeneration [paliggenesia] when [hotan] the Son [huios] of man [anthropos] shall sit [kathizo] in [epi] the throne [thronos] of his [autos] glory [doxa] , ye [humeis] also [kai] shall sit [kathizo] upon [epi] twelve [dodeka] thrones [thronos] , judging [krino] the twelve [dodeka] tribes [phule] of Israel [Israel] .
29 And [kai] every [pas] one [hos] that hath forsaken [aphiemi] houses [oikia] , or [e] brethren [adelphos] , or [e] sisters [adelphe] , or [e] father [pater] , or [e] mother [meter] , or [e] wife [gune] , or [e] children [teknon] , or [e] lands [agros] , for my [mou] name's [onoma] sake [heneka] , shall receive [lambano] an hundredfold [hekatontaplasion] , and [kai] shall inherit [kleronomeo] everlasting [aionios] life [zoe] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 19:27-29

27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, 'Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?' 28 And Jesus said to them, 'Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 'And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name's sake, shall receive many times as much, and shall inherit eternal life. NAS

Panic set in as Peter asks if he in fact has been saved or not. The apostles demonstrated many times that they were confused regarding Gods Word. But Jesus herein reassures them that they are indeed saved (Judas being the exception but not revealed until later).

Their salvation was not due to their leaving their 'things', but due to their faith in Him as the Son of God, the Savior.

This faith is evidenced by their 'regeneration' - that which is of a new birth (Titus 3:5), or the human spirit which came into them at the very moment when they believed in Christ. Into the human spirit is imputed eternal life and that is the quality of forever life which is so important. Eternal life is the ticket which we possess that gives us the right to live with God forever and ever in heaven.

Everyone has a forever existence, but that is not enough. Unbelievers will live forever but they will be forever in the Lake of Fire. Not a good quality of life.

Jesus also refers to another form of regeneration, Isa. 1:26, and that is the regeneration of the earth following His Second Advent. At that time the planet will change dramatically. There will be prosperity like never before. No more wild animals - lion and lamb. No more war or the making of the equipment of war. Lives will be extended, for those who remain alive from the Tribulation, for the remainder of the Millennium. People will live for 1000 years. The population will explode. The apostles will be given seats of honor as judges for the twelve tribes of Israel, as stated herein.

Prosperity will abound for any and all who leave their former life (that which is ruled by their sin nature) and pursue a life as designed by God (the spiritual life). Those who choose to keep their former life (that life under the rule of their sin nature) will not prosper.

The destiny of each one of us is in our very own hands. We make decisions daily in our life. The first important decision of course was to believe in Christ, but once that decision was made, then we are faced with daily decisions. Those daily decisions relate to our pursuit of a spiritual life rather than pursuing some compromise in our sin nature life. Being wealthy or poor is irrelevant. Being in fellowship, being consistent with Gods standards, advancing in our spiritual lives is relevant.

To do anything less means loss of blessings for us. To be consistent with Gods standards means great prosperity and blessing.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
