Lesson # Matt. 24:23-27
Study Material - Matt. 24:23-27
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
23 Then [tote] if [ean] any man [tis] shall say [epo] unto you [humin] , Lo [idou] , here [hode] is Christ [Christos] , or [e] there [hode] ; believe [pisteuo] it not [me] .
24 For [gar] there shall arise [egeiro] false Christs [pseudochristos] , and [kai] false prophets [pseudoprophetes] , and [kai] shall shew [didomi] great [megas] signs [semeion] and [kai] wonders [teras] ; insomuch that [hoste] , if [ei] it were possible [dunatos] , they shall deceive [planao] the very [kai] elect [eklektos] .
25 Behold [idou] , I have told [proereo] you [humin] before [proereo] .
26 Wherefore [oun] if [ean] they shall say [epo] unto you [humin] , Behold [idou] , he is [esti] in [en] the desert [eremos] ; go [exerchomai] not [me] forth [exerchomai] : behold [idou] , he is in [en] the secret chambers [tameion] ; believe [pisteuo] it not [me] .
27 For [gar] as [hosper] the lightning [astrape] cometh [exerchomai] out of [apo] the east [anatole] , and [kai] shineth [phaino] even unto [heos] the west [dusme] ; so [houto] shall [esomai] also [kai] the coming [parousia] of the Son [huios] of man [anthropos] be [esomai] . KJV-Interlinear
23 'Then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'There He is,' do not believe him. 24 'For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. 25 'Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 'If therefore they say to you, 'Behold, He is in the wilderness,' do not go forth, or, 'Behold, He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe them. 27 'For just as the lightning comes from the east, and flashes even to the west, so shall the coming of the Son of Man be. NAS
When under great stress. People can be easily mislead or even fooled into a trap. For those who run from the slaughter, and that will most likely include a stream of refugees running to get away from the anti-christ's thugs, will be both believer and unbelievers in Christ.
Some will be running because they know and understand what is happening. Others will be on the run just because there is a great holocaust unfolding behind them. The ruthlessness of the anti-christ will continue until the end of the Tribulation, some 42 months. That is three and one-half years. And that is a long time for someone hiding in the mountains. No power to speak of. Watches will probably stop running or get broken. People will lose track of time. News will be carried by word of mouth and no one can be trusted, lest they turn you in to the authorities.
Under this kind of stress people will become susceptible to anything good, or any news that sounds good, I should say. But here is the big danger for those folks who are caught up in all of this.
And by the way, we are studying the Tribulation, which is a future time period. This is not happening today so don't pack up and move to the mountains, or the desert, or wherever, because you think you are getting away from tyranny or your debts.
Ok. We continue. I just don't want people to get the wrong idea about what we are talking about. That black out in the Northeast, these last few days, was not the big darkness which we will be studying in verse 29. Jesus Christ is not returning today, tomorrow or at anytime in the next few weeks. If the Rapture were to occur even today, then it would be seven years before the second advent. Remember what Jesus said, 'These things must take place.'
Ok, again. Now people will no doubt lose track to time. They will be under stress and they will most likely not have a continuous daily Bible study in the caves. Some no doubt will, but many will drift away from doctrine.
To these who drift away, then any good sounding news will entice them out of their hiding and certainly into the trap of the anti-christ and to their torture and death. 'Where are the others? Where have you been hiding? Shoot them all.' And so it will go. So much so, that even for those who continue to read their Bibles while in the caves, there will be an overwhelming desire to go home. Some probably will listen to or be tricked by the deceptions. 'Christ has returned. Christ is here. Christ is there.' And so forth.
Jesus Christ gives a very clear description of His return. There will be no question as to the event of the Second Advent. It will be clearly visible, very sudden, very public, and very awesome. 'Just as the lightning streaks across the sky.'
If you have ever seen a lightning storm, with huge thunder boomers. Huge streaks of lightning and loud crashes of thunder, such that if your were asleep, the storm would wake you up immediately and just out of curiosity you would go to watch the storm, then that is how Jesus Christ will return.
The disciples watched Christ ascend in Acts 1:11, and were told that Christ would return in much the same way as He left - visible, brilliant, and with no mistake as to who He was. So also, at his return, He will return with clouds, Rev. 1:7. Those accompanying him will be you and me and all believers from the Church Age. The Royal Family. We will be riding into battle. Each of us on our very own white war horse. Hummm! Better go learn how to ride a horse so you won't fall off and be embarrassed. You in your resurrection body. Now that's one we would talk about forever!!! Ok, just kidding ... Maybe!
When Christ returns it will be an awesome sight and unmistakable. News will not have to come by radio, by TV, 'We interrupt this program for this news bulletin. Jesus has just driven up in His limo ...,' by newspaper, or the grapevine.
To those who are in hiding. Sit tight and wait until you see the signs which Jesus will describe in the next few verses, followed by His very public and awesome return which will be viewed by everyone on planet earth.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
