Matthew 24:36

Lesson # Matt. 24:36
Study Material - Matt. 24:36

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 24:36

36 But [de] of [peri] that [ekeinos] day [hemera] and [kai] hour [hora] knoweth [eido] no [oudeis] man, no, not [oude] the angels [aggelos] of heaven [ouranos] , but [ei me] my [mou] Father [pater] only [monos] . KJV-Interlinear

Matt. 24:36

36 'But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. NASB

The tribulation will last no less than seven years. The Bible does not state how much longer it will last than the seven years. Daniel and Revelation, both suggest extensions of times. Dan. 12 and Rev. 12 elude to a 1290 day time frame for the 'great tribulation' or 30 days more than the 1260 days of the 3 ½ years. Daniel also suggests a 1335 day time frame to which people should be ready to wait for the Lords coming. That is an additional 45 days for as total of 75 indefinite days beyond or within the 42 months.

Why the uncertainty. Satan has a policy by this time of eliminating mankind from planet earth. If he knew the day and hour of the Second Coming, then he would try to advance his aggressive actions against mankind. Surprise resides in the hands of God.

Likewise, if mankind knew the day and hour of Christ's coming, people would have long before now given up on any thought of being the rapture generation. The rapture can happen at anytime. Even in our daily life we do not know the day of our death, but still people, knowing that they will eventually die, become indifferent to God. And our life span is obviously within our life span. If God told us that the second coming was to be in the year 2130, then we would know that the rapture would be seven years before that date and many would become dejected. Or, in the opposite view, people would focus on the future date and the historical activities prior to that date and they would not focus on their daily Bible study. It would be just another excuse to not study the Bible. Not that people actually need more excuses.

Our focus in life in on our present daily study for our own spiritual life. Knowing the future, is interesting of course, but our spiritual growth is far more important.

Satan would jump at anything to destroy God, mankind, and anyone else who gets in his way. But knowing the future to some extent would probably send the history of mankind into a more dangerous direction which is not to the advantage of mankind.

Yes, God is omniscient, and through His foreknowledge, all things would work out for the best in the long run. So we assume that because God does not reveal the time of his Second Coming, that God knows what He is doing and that it is for our best interest.

Even the Son, Jesus, restricted his own knowledge regarding future events. All things that He knew, have been quoted from and therefore came from the scriptures, which were already in print in his day. Jesus grew up just like you and me, studying and learning, and coming to the understanding of who He was and what His purpose was.

John 15:15, 'all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.' NASB

Of course Jesus as God, knows everything. There is nothing that God does not know. He knows all that is knowable (foreknowledge), and all that is possible (omniscience).

God the Father is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the designer of the divine plan. Jesus has on several occasions stated that he does not do anything apart from the Father's plan, but He in fact complies with the Fathers plan 100%. Recall our study in John and earlier in Matthew.

So humans do not know the future, angels do not know the future. No one knows of, nor can they define the future or any of its events. That is totally the prerogative of God. And of course this is yet another big difference between creature and God. God controls history. Man does not.

God gives us everything we need in order to get us to spiritual maturity. All that we need to sustain ourselves in life is within the covers of the Bible. That is where our attention should be, rather than speculation on when the rapture might occur, or preparing to run off into the mountains.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
