Matthew 28:8-10

Lesson # Matt. 28:8-10
Study Material - Matt. 28:8-10

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Matt. 28:8-10

8 And [kai] they departed [exerchomai] quickly [tachu] from [apo] the sepulchre [mnemeion] with [meta] fear [phobos] and [kai] great [megas] joy [chara] ; and did run [trecho] to bring [apaggello] his [autos] disciples [mathetes] word [apaggello] .
9 And [de] as [hos] they went [poreuomai] to tell [apaggello] his [autos] disciples [mathetes] , [kai] behold [idou] , Jesus [Iesous] met [apantao] them [autos] , saying [lego] , All hail [chairo] . And [de] they came [proserchomai] and held [krateo] him [autos] by the feet [pous] , and [kai] worshipped [proskuneo] him [autos] .
10 Then [tote] said [lego] Jesus [Iesous] unto them [autos] , Be [phobeo] not [me] afraid [phobeo] : go [aperchomai] tell [apaggello] my [mou] brethren [adelphos] that [hina] they go [hupago] into [eis] Galilee [Galilaia] , and there [kakei] shall they see [optanomai] me [me] . KJV-Interlinear

8 And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. 9 And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, 'Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they shall see Me.' NASB

Now in the mean time, while Mary Magdalene was at the tomb and had seen Jesus, He obviously left her and met the other women who had earlier left the tomb and were on their way to their home (the place they were staying) and the rest of the disciples.

They were hurrying, they were in fear, and they were not going to talk to anyone along the way, regarding what they saw (the angels) at the tomb.

Jesus suddenly met them along the way, and they recognized Him immediately. Again the scene repeats itself with their joy and uncontrollable happiness when they saw Him. This is the second appearance that Jesus has made and this one is to the group of women who had followed Him through the years. Thus far the apostles and no one else has seen Him.

The women who were the most loyal and faithful have now witnessed the empty tomb, seen and heard from the angels, now they have seen and heard from Jesus Christ and touched Him. He is very much alive.

While the apostles had been His companion for these past three years, they ultimately abandoned Him and ran in fear. The one exception was John and to a lessor extent, Peter.

When the news of the resurrection comes to the apostles and the others, they will meet it with contempt and disbelief. They will believe neither the group of women, nor Mary Magdalene. After all, they are just women!!! What could they possibly know?

The disciples and apostles are just setting themselves up for their total and final macho dude humiliation.

The basic truth of the resurrection underlines a number of spiritual truths. First, it gives evidence that the Word of God is true and reliable. Jesus rose from the dead precisely when and in the way He said He would, Matt. 12:40, 16:21, 17:9,23.

Second, the resurrection means that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He has power over life and death.

Third, the resurrection proves that salvation is complete, that on the cross Christ conquered sin, death.

Fourth, the resurrection proves that the church is going to be established. Jesus had declared, 'I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it' Matt. 16:18.

Fifth, the resurrection proves that judgment is certain and is coming. Jesus declared that the Father 'has given all judgment to the Son' John 5:22, and since He (the Son) was now risen and alive, His judgment is certain. One more reason that Satan tried to prevent His death and resurrection. Now Satan's judgment is certain.

Sixth, the resurrection of Christ proves that heaven is waiting for us. Jesus promised, 'In My house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you' John 14:2. Because Christ is alive by the resurrection, believers have the assurance that He is now preparing a heavenly dwelling for them. Our future destiny as believers in heaven is certain. The destiny of unbelievers in the Lake of Fire is equally as certain. The extraordinary blessings above and beyond all we can imagine, for mature believers, is also certain. The rest of our life here on earth is merely our opportunity to prepare ourselves (or not) for that destiny which we are definitely headed for.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
