Phil. 2:14-18

Lesson # Phil. 2:14-18
Study Material - Phil. 2:14-18

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Phil. 2:14-18

14 Do [poieo] all things [pas] without [choris] murmurings [goggusmos] and [kai] disputings [dialogismos]:
15 That [hina] ye may be [ginomai] blameless [amemptos] and [kai] harmless [akeraios], the sons [teknon] of God [theos], without rebuke [amometos], in [en] the midst [mesos] of a crooked [skolios] and [kai] perverse [diastrepho] nation [genea], among [en] whom [hos] ye shine [phaino] as [hos] lights [phoster] in [en] the world [kosmos];
16 Holding forth [epecho] the word [logos] of life [zoe]; that [eis] I [emoi] may rejoice [kauchema] in [eis] the day [hemera] of Christ [Christos], that [hoti] I have [trecho] not [ou] run [trecho] in [eis] vain [kenos], neither [oude] laboured [kopiao] in [eis] vain [kenos].
17 Yea [alla], and if [ei kai] I be offered [spendo] upon [epi] the sacrifice [thusia] and [kai] service [leitourgia] of your [humon] faith [pistis], I joy [chairo], and [kai] rejoice with [sugchairo] you [humin] all [pas].
18 For [de] the same cause [autos] also [kai] do [chairo] ye [humeis] joy [chairo], and [kai] rejoice with [sugchairo] me [moi]. KJV-Interlinear

14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; 15 that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may have cause to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. 18 And you too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me. NASB

Don't grumble to yourself, find fault from your own opinion. Don't judge, or otherwise find excuses why you should not do the things you are expected to do in your daily life. God issues His commands to be obeyed. They are not for discussion or dispute. They are not for negotiation. Do not try to find an angle or another way around getting out of the things God expects you to do. Though we cannot converse directly with God, He knows all our thoughts, all our motives, all our decisions. We may able to fool other people, but they do not determine our future. God does that alone. God has the sovereign right and authority to determine where we will end up based on His doctrine and our compliance with it.

Do not dispute with others. No judging, no arguing, no deceiving, no lying or cheating, or setting of double standards for yourself verses others, when you deal or interact with others. No getting ahead at the expense of others. God can promote you without harming anyone else. Most of mankind gets ahead when others suffer or experience loss. You get the job and someone else did not. You lose your assets in a storm and someone else gains by rebuilding for you.

Two issues are involved in this passage. First is the issue of living with yourself, and the second issue is living with others. No grumbling. No disputing. In order that you may avoid sin and remain blameless, pure, maintaining your fellowship status. In a state of innocence as young children, who have no presumptions of life. Children who do not plot deceptions or have detailed plans for accomplishing things in life. Children live moment to moment, not worrying about the tomorrow's or even where the things of life come from. In the ideal situation, the parents provide for all their needs. So God provides for us in the ideal situation. The situation when we comply with His word, by advancing toward spiritual maturity and functioning in life as He commands us to function.

Even though we live in a perverse generation, and every generation in history is perverse. Every moment of the day, every day in history, the world has had but one goal, and that is to function without God. God and His word provides us with an alternative the rules of the world, and thus releases us from the confinements of the world and its slavery to sin and death.

Remember that without God there is no blessing, only misery. We are slaves to the world and that position is the worst possible position to hold in life. Doctrine is the light. Apart from doctrine there is no light, only darkness, a total darkness where there is absolutely no frame of reference as to where one is in life. No awareness of ones decline into total doom. But do not wait for disaster to strike before you believe it. That is the hard way to learn things. You can be street smart by studying doctrine and observing life around you. You do not have to live on the street in order to figure out your way around in this world.

With doctrine in our souls, we too become lights in this world, providing further dissemination of Gods wisdom, first to ourselves and family, and also to others at work or as we interact with them in our daily lives. We do not quote scripture every time we talk with someone. Often times your discussions deal with day to day circumstances. Sometimes they are the most difficult decisions. Pizza or salad??

We hold fast to our daily Bible study, because it is the word of life as verse 16 states. In order to meet our ultimate goal - our place at the Judgment Seat of Christ, the day of Christ. So that not only Paul will have not written these words in vain. So that I myself have not written these words in vain. But more importantly, so that you have not lived your life for nothing. And when we all stand before Christ at His Judgment Seat immediately after the rapture occurs, and receive our evaluations, we can stand up with confidence and full of doctrine. Standing there in all our adornment, all our precious gems of jewelry which is the doctrine in our souls, and the production we have attained by applying doctrine to our lives.

Otherwise we have nothing to show for our lives but a soul full of wood, hay, and stubble. Worthless accomplishments which Christ will burn away with a special fire. A fire which will not harm you, but will cleanse al that garbage out of your soul. You are being prepared at that time for the wedding feast. Do you think Christ would want a bride who is completely covered with stinking vomit? Of course not, so the Judgment Seat, the day of Christ will not only cleanse all this stink from us forever, but those who have doctrine and the production of doctrine will receive many rewards and honors beyond those given to others who lacked doctrine.

In a way the teacher of doctrine, as Paul certainly is, pours himself out in his efforts in teaching to others. He dedicates his life for the benefit of others. Whether they responded positively or otherwise it not the issue, and certainly Paul did not continue his function in spreading Gods word, only with requirements of their compliance, but for the love of doctrine and the joy or happiness it brought to him. So also, each of us have the opportunity to understand this same happiness and share it through the common denominator of Bible doctrine. We should not place any requirements on others in exchange for our helping them in their difficult times. We do good because it is in our new nature, a nature defined by Bible doctrine, and not from selfish motives. We leave the results to God, for we know now, from this passage, that it is God who works all things for good, and it is He who works His will to its certain conclusion regardless of any of our efforts or lack of them.

So with the common ground that Bible doctrine provides we can all be on the same wavelength and headed for the same goal. Not looking to ourselves or this world for our comfort or accomplishments, but looking to Bible doctrine for our answers and guidance.
