Phil. 3:20-21

Lesson # Phil. 3:20-21
Study Material - Phil. 3:20-21

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Phil. 3:20-21

20 For [gar] our [hemon] conversation [politeuma] is [huparcho] in [en] heaven [ouranos]; from [ek] whence [hos] also [kai] we look for [apekdechomai] the Saviour [soter], the Lord [kurios] Jesus [Iesous] Christ [Christos]:
21 Who [hos] shall change [metaschematizo] our [hemon] vile [tapeinosis] body [soma], that [eis] it [autos] may be [ginomai] fashioned like unto [summorphos] his [autos] glorious [doxa] body [soma], according to [kata] the working [energeia] whereby he [autos] is able [dunamai] even [kai] to subdue [hupotasso] all things [pas] unto himself [heautou]. KJV-Interlinear

20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; 21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself. NASB

Our home is not here on earth. Not in our respective countries, or cities, or rural areas. Our home is not even in our physical bodies which we have to deal with everyday. This life is temporary at best and we will leave it sooner or later either by physical death, or by means of the rapture.

Our real home is in heaven. A place lacking corruption and providing eternal life, absent the inadequacies that this world and this life can provide. This is our hope and our confidence - heaven, eternal life, and a resurrection body just like that of Christ.

At some point in the future this current age, the Church Age, will come to a close in a rather sudden event. Jesus Christ will rise up in heaven from the throne where He is currently sitting, He will descend into the clouds and with a trumpet call, which all believers, who are alive at that time, will hear. Not only that but all believers who have died over these last nearly 2000 years, will be caught up by the power of Christ, His omnipotent power. A power by which He can and will subdue all things under His authority. He will call us all up into the clouds, and there in an instant we will be transformed, just as He was seen in the transfiguration with His radiant face and clothed in a radiant indestructible apparel and indestructible body, in all the glory of God. In this we will share because we are in union with Christ and joint heirs in His inheritance.

He Himself will cause the transformation to us. And thereafter we will always be with Him. In that event our surprise and shock will overcome us all. Being used to this world and then suddenly having some event such as this overtake us at a moment when we least expect it. Think of that first roller coaster ride. You can see the ride. You can hear it explained, but you can't know what it will be like until you begin that first long dive, and the subsequent rush you feel throughout the ride. So it will be in the rapture. We know of it. We can try to imagine it. But the real thing will be like nothing we could ever possibly imagine. Seeing Christ face to face for the first time. Seeing all the believers from this Church Age. Millions and millions, perhaps billions, and all in resurrection bodies. An escort of angels, perhaps in the billions, in all their dress whites so to speak, for the event. All focused on Christ our Lord and King and God. Every knee will bend. Every head will bow. And the tears, if there are any, will be as though we had been set free, rescued, from the worst possible concentration camp imaginable.

The emotions will run high to be sure, and the party of parties will be about to begin.

Paul mentioned this state of perfection which will come to all believers, positive or negative in life. The difference from there on will be the amount of Bible doctrine each of us has taken upon ourselves to learn while here on this earth. Most will have all that wood, hay, and stubble jamming out of our ears. Some of us will have the gold, silver, and precious stones decorating our souls. The next stop is that shower in which Christ will clean out the worthless in us all with a purifying fire that will burn up all that wood, hay, and stubble. This is called the Judgment Seat of Christ, and will take 3 ½ years to get through. While back on earth, there will be the period of the Tribulation and horrors too terrible to mention. Those details will be spelled out in Revelation.

Each of us will be brought before Christ for an accounting. He will ask, 'What did you do with my investment?' Remember that parable where the master went away and left some capital with his servants? You and I are those servants. Christ left us time, doctrine, and volition. Did we invest them? Some will study and grow up spiritually getting a tremendous return for their investment. These are the mature believers. Some will study part of their lives, and have some spiritual growth. Some will do nothing with their lives and have little of no spiritual growth. And each will be rewarded accordingly by Christ at His Judgment of them. Or an evaluation of them if you will.

We will all receive that championship ring of a resurrection body, but some will receive even more rewards, and that is where the loss in eternity comes into play when people are negative toward Bible doctrine in this life. Because this is the time of your investment.

Paul warns us clearly, that we should avoid many things of this world, and embrace our Bible study. He warns us not only here in these passages, but we are warned throughout the Bible. We are to pursue that goal, that higher calling to perfection, first of salvation, second of spiritual growth, and finally of our future resurrection. Being a mature believer in a resurrection body is the ultimate triumph in all of creation.

No matter what failures you have had in your life. Whether you have been a good person, or a jerk. There remains a chance for you to advance to that ultimate goal. God makes it possible, and when God is on your side you cannot fail.

Today my wife and I just saw the movie 'Castaway'. About that FedEx man who was stranded on an island for many years. Suddenly his life was changed, and all those things that had been important to him were of no importance. Even his attempt to end it all failed miserably. But the tide brought up something new to him that gave him a new direction, that outhouse sail. I know that this was just a movie, and not even the kind that I generally like. But just like this movie, so life can be a little strange or sudden for us too. Regardless of the problems we have, with Bible doctrine, we have a new tide everyday, bringing us new things. If we look at things through our 'worldly' eyes, we will not see their value. But if we look through the eyes given us through Bible doctrine, than we will see things in a totally new perspective.

What do you have to lose? What better things do you have than Bible doctrine?
