Phil. 4:4-7

Lesson # Phil. 4:4-7
Study Material - Phil. 4:4-7

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Phil. 4:4-7

4 Rejoice [chairo] in [en] the Lord [kurios] alway [pantote]: and again [palin] I say [ereo], Rejoice [chairo].
5 Let [ginosko] your [humon] moderation [epieikes] be known [ginosko] unto all [pas] men [anthropos]. The Lord [kurios] is at hand [eggus].
6 Be careful [merimnao] for nothing [medeis]; but [alla] in [en] every thing [pas] by prayer [proseuche] and [kai] supplication [deesis] with [meta] thanksgiving [eucharistia] let [gnorizo] your [humon] requests [aitema] be made known [gnorizo] unto [pros] God [theos].
7 And [kai] the peace [eirene] of God [theos], which [ho] passeth [huperecho] all [pas] understanding [nous], shall keep [phroureo] your [humon] hearts [kardia] and [kai] minds [humon] [noema] through [en] Christ [Christos] Jesus [Iesous]. KJV-Interlinear

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. NASB

Rejoice, 'chairo', be calm, be happy, contented, farewell a parting salutation, or a meeting salutation. Paul is bidding his readers farewell, bidding them happiness. Not just an empty phrase as so many farewells are. Most spoken out of habit or expected formality. Here Paul speaks to his readers and wishes each one of us joy from the source of Jesus Christ, Bible doctrine which we possess as a result of our continued daily Bible study and our application of that wisdom to our daily lives.

Forbearing, 'epieikes', gentle, moderation, patient. Let your newly acquired style of life, your calm, secure, poised manner be obvious to all. Don't fly off the handle at the smallest things. Think before you speak. Apply doctrine to your life's situations. Others will take note at your maturity, your patience, your wisdom. A quick contrast between your controlled manner and the manner of others who are insecure in life, others who are quick to react to situations or blow things out of proportion.

God is near and in many ways. God is omnipresent, therefore everywhere simultaneously. God holds the universe together with the word of His power. But God is not some form of dark matter that saturates all other matter. God is Spirit and therefore outside of creation, not a part of it. God existed prior to everything that has been created. In fact God created all things in an instant of time. God created the angels prior to the creation of the universe.

God is the Word of God. The doctrine that we study, learn, and apply to our lives. God is therefore in our souls in the form of doctrine and instantly available to us when we are in fellowship, from our thoughts.

God indwells each one of us as believers in this Church Age. All three members of the trinity indwell believers and have done this since this Church Age began. He (They) did not indwell believers prior to this Church Age. See the blessings list on the Index page. So God is very near, as close as our thoughts. We just need to be aware and focused on our life, so that we can recognize our spiritual status at any given moment in time.

The next two verses you should really commit to memory.

Stop worrying about anything, but in everything through prayer and supplication (humility), with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God (the Father). And the peace of God (spiritual maturity), which surpasses all understanding (human understanding), shall garrison your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

This is the Christian life, the spiritual life. The life you attain when you get yourself into fellowship (into that sphere of power that God has reserved for you and where you should lie your life), when you study your Bible with the proper instruction, on a daily basis, and applying it to your daily life, thus accelerating your spiritual growth. Understanding that God is really in control of your life, and that nothing can happen to you if God doesn't permit it. And when you are in fellowship, you are on solid ground, in a solid fortress. Nothing can touch you. Gods armor surrounds you. Therefore worry should be erased from your thoughts. Prayer should be a regular part of your daily routine, just as breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are. Humility is a part of your conduct of poise and self control. It is not living in a life of rag clothes and rounded shoulders. Humility is inside your soul not on the outside of your body. Making requests. If you do not ask, you will not receive! If you don't go to school, you won't get an education. If you don't apply for a job, your won't get hired. If you do not advertise, you won't sell. In contrast God does things for us even when we do not request them. Most people do not make requests and those that do pray for things, generally pray for the wrong things. Spiritual growth enlightens you as to what you should be praying for, and really there is almost no limit as to what you can pray for so long as prayer is consistent with Gods will.

Gods peace, Gods rest was not available to those Israelites who rebelled in the desert, because they were negative and refused to study their Bible doctrine. Of course back then they had the teaching principles of the offerings and sacrifices conducted daily. But to each one of us who studies diligently, that peace is readily available by means of our attainment of spiritual maturity.

Bible doctrine guards our hearts and minds. The two lobes of our soul. The heart function being that which pumps or circulates doctrine throughout your soul. The mind function being the end result of the processed knowledge, the final product and discard of that which is unnecessary. We have studied the 'reins' or 'kidney' analogy with respect to the mind, in previous lessons.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
