Revelation 18:15

15 The merchants [emporos] of these things, [touton] which [ho] were made rich [plouteo] by [apo] her, [autos] shall stand [histemi] afar [makrothen] off [apo] for [dia] the fear [phobos] of her [autos] torment, [basanismos] weeping [klaio] and [kai] wailing, [pentheo] KJV-Interlinear

15 "The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, NASB

The general population, especially those who gained from the worldly systems, and that includes just about everyone, since everyone gains in some sense, one way or another, even if it is only the perception of a gain, will feel the remorse of their loss.

But only to a certain point.

Babylon is the 'her' that has collapsed. Identified way back in verse one, it is the world system or the cosmos diabolicus, or the plan of Satan which has been promoted by man and commanded by Satan in these final weeks and months and even years of the Tribulation.

But although in tears over their loss, notice that all back away and do not want to be identified with the collapse. This is the classic, 'I am not to blame.'

Although embracing and promoting and supporting the world systems put in place by the anti-christ, systems that gave these people place, status, elitism, wealth and such, when push comes to shove, they all run like rats, not wanting to be blamed for the disaster. 'Not my fault.'

The fear of Babylons torment, is blame, finding someone to blame. Initially the Jews were to blame, then the Christians were to blame, and then anyone who happened to be close by was a legitimate scapegoat.

So what does this do, it sets up everyone for pointing fingers at everyone else. The rats run and the comradely of evil turns against itself.

Do you know what this is all going to lead up to?
