Romans 6:4

4 Therefore [oun] we are buried with [sunthapto] him [autos] by [dia] baptism [baptisma] into [eis] death [thanatos]: that [hina] like as [hosper] Christ [Christos] was raised up [egeiro] from [ek] the dead [nekros] by [dia] the glory [doxa] of the Father [pater], even so [houto] we [hemeis] also [kai] should walk [peripateo] in [en] newness [kainotes] of life [zoe].  KJV-Interlinear

4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.  ESV

Jesus Christ died two deaths while on the cross. The first death, was His spiritual death, wherein all sins of humanity were poured out on Him, and judged. Jesus was very much physically alive during this judgment process.

When the judgment of sin had been completed, He let us know with the statement, finished.

After this judgment was completed, He died His second death, which was His physical death. In this second physical death, Jesus did not bleed to death, He merely pushed His head forward and exhaled His final breath.

In the baptism ritual, we participate in Christ’s death, through the symbolism portrayed in the baptism. In a full submersion water baptism, we are submerged and then raised up again out of the water.

After the cross, Christ’s body went into the grave, and His soul and spirit went to paradise and heaven respectively. Three days later all three components were reunited and He walked out of the tomb.

In identifying with Christ, and in all of His work on the cross, and in the grave, and in the resurrection, we participate in the entire process symbolically, because that too will occur for us.

When we first believed in Christ, that faith gained us eternal life, yet we are still here in this physical world. However, one day we will all come face to face with our departure from this world, and thereafter we will be face to face with Christ in heaven.

But that is not the end of our journey. There is still going to be a resurrection. And for us in this dispensation, that will occur at the rapture. When that will occur, we do not know.

But the certainty of the life of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross, and His death, burial, and resurrection, so too our resurrection and eternal life is guaranteed.

The phrase, newness of life, gives us two new types of life.

Just as Christ died twice, and life was restored, so too, when we believed in Christ, we received a newness of life, with respect to our spiritual life. But also we have the certainty of the second newness, which is our resurrection.

The spiritual life and the resurrection into eternal life, are both permanent.

Our spiritual life begins with our salvation, when we believed in Christ. Our eternal life will begin with our resurrection whenever that occurs.

Jesus Christ, paid the ultimate price to secure our freedom from both sin and death. And even though we are still shackled while in this world, with both of these obstacles, one day those chains will be cast off permanently and forever.

These studies, are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org, that is easily accessible, and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so already, and therefore not be lost forever.

And if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever.

To ignore this opportunity to pursue a daily study means you will be incomplete, unfulfilled and you will lose out, big time.

The Daily Bible Study is online, making it possible as never before in all of human history, to advance in ones relationship with God, through Christ, and to complete yourself beyond your imagination.

But you have to decide to make that commitment. No one else can study for you. You have to do that yourself.
