Dan. 1:18-21

Lesson # Dan. 1:18-21
Study Material - Dan. 1:18-21

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Dan. 1:18-21

18 Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 And the king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's personal service. 20 And as for every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and conjurers who were in all his realm. 21 And Daniel continued until the first year of Cyrus the king.

After three years, the four men were presented to the king Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel and his friends stood out in their knowledge and wisdom. And as a result they were hired for the job so to speak. And were put to work on the kings staff.

They were so far beyond their peers, ten times, as the Bible states, that they impressed the king to the point that he employed them in positions high in his government. And the life of Daniel continued until the rule of Cyrus, king of Persia.

So Daniel not only saw the kings of Babylon rise and fall, but he saw the onset of the next empire, the Persian empire.

In the next chapter the role of Daniel will begin, in the second year of the sole rulership of Nebuchadnezzar. For four years, Nebuchadnezzar ruled jointly with his father. It was during these four years that Daniel and his friends were in their three year training program. So Daniel had been in his position for a couple of years before the king began to have his dreams.

There was a preparation period for Daniel. He did not simply go to Babylon and then gain a hearing before the king. He went through a period of training and preparation before he was to be used by God. Note also that God prepared all the details of this time. God provided the dreams, and to Daniel the interpretations of them. God controls history. God does not use believers until they are prepared. God is not the author of confusion. God does not shoot from the hip like some maverick, or cocky and wildly irresponsible person. God is organized. Everything done is well thought out and planed to the last possible detail. All possible contingencies are made for all possible alternate actions.

God not only installs the kings of nations, but he provides for the acceptance of ones personality, or even the rejection of ones personality in order to accomplish His will in history. We merely think the thoughts and do the deeds, but God knows ahead of time what everyone will do and when. So God places people in history at the exact time for His plan for history to unfold in a predictable way. With God there are no surprises. With the world there are always surprises, because we cannot see into tomorrow.

Daniel found himself in a precarious situation, but he hung on to his Bible knowledge. His source of strength was not in the fine foods of the palace, nor in the education provided. God gave him all the resources he needed in order to survive, and more than that, God used Daniel and his friends to further His plan. A plan which far exceeds the importance of mans plans for himself.

Daniel was evaluated and found to be ready. Throughout our lives we are evaluated in many ways. Our parents evaluate us, our teachers, our friends, our fellow workers, our customers evaluate us. You cannot turn your head hardly without finding someone who has some opinion of you. Some of those opinions are fair, and some are not. But the most important evaluation we can possibly have is that which comes from God. And God evaluates us moment by moment. And God looks deep into our soul, even to the dividing asunder of the soul and the spirit. God can separate the two, where we cannot even define or measure the soul let alone see it. Gods evaluation is for a purpose however. Whereas the opinions of people may or may not affect your life, Gods opinion is for His future use of you for some specific purpose in His plan in history. You are not just another statistic on this planet. Nebuchadnezzar saw his captives as a number, as an inventory resource for his rule of the Babylonian kingdom. They could be kept or discarded at his choosing. In this world people are expendable. But in doctrine, people are precious. God so loved the world, that He gave His only son.

Daniel is a captive, yet is now promoted to a high office even over his captors. He was far from home, yet he was given a new home and purpose from God. He was intelligent, but God gave him gifts for a specific mission. Gifts separate and a part from those he would use on a daily basis. So it is with each of our lives. We all have some gift or perhaps several gifts that God has given us. Some of us use them. Most people do not. The key is your attitude toward Bible doctrine, and your spiritual growth. To be prepared spiritually is the greatest preparation one can have in life. Nothing else can compare with its impact on ones life. With spiritual preparation all other things in life are irrelevant. Gods plan for ones life is the relevant issue, and the issue that gets results and has an impact on history.

Daniel survived into the next empire, the Persian empire. So your circumstances make no difference. As long as your are positive and advancing in life, Gods plan and purpose will continue for you. And nothing in this world can prevent it. Not people, not governments, not organizations, not viruses, not genetic flaws, nothing. God is far greater than everything in creation.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
