Dan. 5:17-22

Lesson # Dan. 5:17-22
Study Material - Dan. 5:17-22

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Dan. 5:17-22

17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, 'Keep your gifts for yourself, or give your rewards to someone else; however, I will read the inscription to the king and make the interpretation known to him. 18 'O king, the Most High God granted sovereignty, grandeur, glory, and majesty to Nebuchadnezzar your father. 19 'And because of the grandeur which He bestowed on him, all the peoples, nations, and men of every language feared and trembled before him; whomever he wished he killed, and whomever he wished he spared alive; and whomever he wished he elevated, and whomever he wished he humbled. 20 'But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit became so proud that he behaved arrogantly, he was deposed from his royal throne, and his glory was taken away from him. 21 'He was also driven away from mankind, and his heart was made like that of beasts, and his dwelling place was with the wild donkeys. He was given grass to eat like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he recognized that the Most High God is ruler over the realm of mankind, and that He sets over it whomever He wishes. 22 'Yet you, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this,

It was once written of King Henry II of England, that never did any man have so much power and did so little harm with it.

Belshazzar has affronted God far worse than Nebuchadnezzar and even in the face of overwhelming and pending disaster for the empire, Belshazzar remains stubbornly against God. Quite similar to the stubbornness of Pharaoh.

Daniel reminds Belshazzar that he, Belshazzar, knows his history. That he knew of the events that happened to Nebuchadnezzar. That Nebuchadnezzar was appointed by God to his throne. That Nebuchadnezzar received all that he had, from God. And not just any god, but 'The Most High God', to distinguish God above and beyond all other concepts of deities which are, of course, false.

God controls history. Nebuchadnezzar received all his glory, majesty, honor and kingdom from God and from no other. He was placed in a position of great honor and authority and power. Nebuchadnezzar could decide between life and death in criminal proceedings, and from him there was no appeal.

Nebuchadnezzar's umbrella of authority spread out over many peoples and languages. This was not for the personal pleasure of Nebuchadnezzar, but for the responsibility and care of those under his realm, and in accordance with the proper care and function of his government.

Too often politicians get the idea that they are the parents of the citizenry and they lust for the power afforded by governmental agencies and bureaucracies, as well as enjoying the fruits of the tax monies, improperly, at the expense of the taxpayers.

Nebuchadnezzar let all the glory and power go to his head. He was even warned that watcher angels were documenting his actions, that a board of inquiry of angels would decide his fate, and what that fate would actually be, unless he changed his ways. He did not change and he was sent into loony land living as an animal for a time, until he declared that God was The God, and the ultimate ruler over all.

By the way, Daniel has already seen the words and knows their meaning. He has had visions in earlier years (chapters seven and eight) disclosing history to come, and he knows that the time of the empire of Babylon has come to its end. He declines the offer of rewards from the king. King Belshazzar has nothing to offer Daniel. God has far more to offer.

Belshazzar knows all of this history. We, each one of us, have no excuse in our lives. We know the details of Gods warnings, especially if you have been in this Bible study for any length of time. But from life in general there are many warnings and proofs of life after death as well as consequences to the decisions we make in life, such that no one has any excuse. We will all come before Christ at the Judgment Seat of Christ. This is a good judgment and one that you certainly would not want to miss. It is more of an evaluation really and an awards ceremony all tied up into one proceeding. This will follow the rapture of the Church and will take about 3 1/2 years to complete. This is simultaneous with the first half of the Tribulation. We will be evaluated and receiving various awards, while on earth Satan's failing economic panacea will be destroying the earth and its peoples will be in tremendous misery. You can review this in Revelation.

God controls history. He decided when each one of us would be born and into what environment we would be born into . All we have we received from God, and for that we must be grateful. Whether we have much or very little makes no difference, for this life represents 'nothing' in the eternal time line picture of our overall life. Let those in the jungle compete over the little bits of meat and other earthly prizes, while you should be building your eternal palace in your soul, by means of your daily Bible study. The content of your soul is the basis of your evaluation when you stand before Christ, not your earthly balance sheet. The things of earth will remain on earth and fade away permanently. The things of God, Bible doctrine, will remain with you forever.

Put everything in proper perspective. You 'will', if you have believed in Christ, stand before Christ. Better to have doctrine in your soul, therefore being the recipient of great rewards and blessings above and beyond the norm (beyond comprehension), rather than an empty soul as a result of being negative all your life, and being in heaven and receiving none of those extra rewards. That would be embarrassing!

I saw in a magazine a picture taken by that Hubble Space Telescope recently and since it was fitted with a new lens mechanism. It looked deeper into space than ever before. When we look up at the sky on a clear and dark night we see millions and billions of individual stars just speckling the night sky. The Hubble took a picture of very deep space and in the picture was the same mass of speckles throughout the picture, but instead of being individual stars, they were all galaxies. This universe is vast and beyond comprehension. We are but small and insignificant creatures, yet our pride gets in our way all too often. We fight over this little puddle we call earth, and yet we all know that our individual lives will come to an end sooner or later. We quibble over insignificant things. If we do not prepare ourselves for the future (which also prepares us for the present), then our fate will reach out and take us when we least expect it, and it will be too late to change.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
