Dan. 10:5-9

Lesson # Dan. 10:5-9
Study Material - Dan. 10:5-9

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Dan. 10:5-9

5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a certain man dressed in linen, whose waist was girded with a belt of pure gold of Uphaz. 6 His body also was like beryl, his face had the appearance of lightning, his eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and feet like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a tumult. 7 Now I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, while the men who were with me did not see the vision; nevertheless, a great dread fell on them, and they ran away to hide themselves. 8 So I was left alone and saw this great vision; yet no strength was left in me, for my natural color turned to a deathly pallor, and I retained no strength. 9 But I heard the sound of his words; and as soon as I heard the sound of his words, I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.

Daniel looks up and sees yet another brilliance that he has not seen before. He has seen Jesus Christ in his vision. He has seen Gabriel in his dream and in person. Now he sees a prince of the angelic realm. This vision is not of Jesus Christ, for this angel was sent as we will see in verse 11 and even requires the help of the angel Michael, see verse 13, before he can come to give an explanation to Daniel, in response to Daniel's prayers, verse 12.

But here we have a description of this angel. The description is one of terror to anyone who has never seen the likes of such a highly placed angel. It is also one of splendor. The angel is well dressed and carries the dress of one in a high office with great responsibility and authority. His power is implied as he is in confrontation with those (his demon counter parts) who oppose him as explained later in this chapter.

He is dressed in the finest of linens. In our day we would call these clothes, custom made from the finest of tailors. Very expensive clothing and accessories. A one of a kind outfit made specifically for this angel. How can we come to this conclusion? By means of other descriptions of other angels (specifically Lucifer) in the Bible. See Eze. 28:12-15.

Eze. 28:12-15

12 'Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, 'You had the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 'You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The ruby, the topaz, and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx, and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise, and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you. On the day that you were created They were prepared. 14 'You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 'You were blameless in your ways From the day you were created, Until unrighteousness was found in you.

Lucifer is the most brilliant of all the angels (by far more brilliant than this angel seen by Daniel), the highest in rank, with the greatest of positions and authority. That is until he became arrogant and led a rebellion against God, Isa. 14:13+ and Rev. 12:4. The description in Eze. 28 is that of the most brilliant of outfits of Lucifer, made specifically for him, ands on the very day he was created. Note too, that Lucifer was created by God. He did not will himself into existence.

Isa. 14:13-15

13 'But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. 14'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.' 15 'Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.

This angel, in Daniel 10, was brilliant enough to cause Daniel, one who has seen angels before, to collapse. Daniel was weak certainly from his long fasting period, three weeks, and he was very old, but he was walking along the river bank with others when he encountered this vision and this angel. Daniel was strong in Bible doctrine and he knew the realities of life, even the spiritual life. He was not taken by surprise. He has been concerned for his peoples sake and has been praying for better comfort from God concerning his people and their future.

Uphaz is probably a location - gold from Uphaz and silver from Tarshish, Jer. 10:9. We can expect that this was a place of the best of gold production or the finishing of gold in to useful articles such as belts, jewelry, etc. This place was probably the 'place to go' when one wanted the finest of this kind of thing.

The body of beryl or a bluish green very hard mineral, implies great strength and power and composure. The face of lightning and eyes of fiery torches imply confidence, extreme intelligence, resolve, confidence, courage, ability. The arms and legs and feet of polished brass again imply great strength, ability, and agility. His voice was not that of a weakling but of assurance, power, vocal, a resounding powerful voice as of one with authority. When he speaks everyone can't help but listen.

None of this angel babies with wings stuff that we see in advertising and movies, or youthful pictures of innocent weaklings who have very timid voices and appear to lack confidence or authority. This angel was a warrior of warriors, a diplomat of diplomats.

So here we have a picture of an incredible angel. Combined with the picture of Lucifer (Satan), we have some hint as to the angelic realm at least with respect to some high earthly offices, as we will see later in this chapter.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
