Dan. 10:10-13

Lesson # Dan. 10:10-13
Study Material - Dan. 10:10-13

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Dan. 10:10-13

10 Then behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, 'O Daniel, man of high esteem, understand the words that I am about to tell you and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.' And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. 12 Then he said to me, 'Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words. 13 'But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

The angel touched Daniel, spoke to him, gave him reassurance and strength, and helped him to stand upright. Daniel was still overwhelmed by the total presence of the angel, and trembled. Daniel as we know was a mature believer, and therefore if he is overwhelmed, then we should be totally overwhelmed to even greater degrees. I presume that there is none among us as great as Daniel, spiritually speaking.

He repeats the compliment to Daniel, 'man of high esteem', but here the meaning is 'man of desires'. Desire comes from wanting 'to know'. Wanting to know leads one to search out the truth of facts of a thing. Only those who desire Bible doctrine will pursue its knowledge. Daniel desired with intensity to know Gods wisdom. Desire leads in this case to study, then to understanding, to application to ones life, to maturity, to a position of esteem.

Daniel some 21 days earlier began to fast and pray. He wanted to know more about what is to become of his people. He was greatly concerned about his nation. His prayer was answered at the outset of his prayer, but there was a delay in getting the answer he desired, to him. This leads us to a few bits more of information concerning angels.

They have limitations to their powers. They have assigned duties. In this case the prince (demon) of Persia is the counter part of the angel sent to Daniel. These two adversaries, the prince of Persia and the angel speaking to Daniel, were two of the same realm. Both are angels, but opponents. The angel speaking to Daniel was not named. His counterpart is a demon and has authority over the nation of Persia, as assigned to him by his leader, Satan. Angels have limitations, they are not omnipotent. There is a limitation in the number of angels available to do some given deed. In some cases God (Jesus Christ) will interfere to get a job done, in other cases he will permit angels to carry out his commands. This chapters primary purpose is to give us some insight as to some of the goings on in the angelic realm.

Ours is not a struggle with this world but with those dark forces that are in this world, Eph. 6:12.

Beyond that which we can see is a realm of angels in conflict. They rebelled against God, 1/3rd of them specifically as we saw yesterday. They were condemned to the lake of fire due to their rebellion and refusal to change their ways Matt. 25:41, but they of course have not been sent there as yet.

They will at an interim date (Second Advent) be sent to prison, Isa. 24:21-22, and then at an even later date (at the end of the Millennium) will then be sent to the fires of hell.

Lucifer fell from grace, refused to return, even led a rebellion and for all that was condemned. He was barred from the presence of God in certain areas in heaven, Eze. 28:16. He is allowed to enter into the various court proceedings, Job 1:6. His name was banished to that of Devil or Satan, which both carry the meanings of adversary, accuser, advocate, slanderer.

From all of this and certainly more, we can conclude that there was a trial following Lucifer's rebellion, that Lucifer was dishonored and banned from his previous position, that he was condemned, and since that sentence has not been carried out, and since mankind has come into history since those events, then we conclude that this is an appeal of sorts of the sentence which Satan received. Once the appeal is concluded (at the end of our human history), then the sentence will be carried out.

In this passage we see that there are princes (spirit or demon princes) assigned over nations to deceive them. The things that gentiles worship are not the mere presence or outward of those things but they are really worshipping the demons behind those things, 1 Cor. 10:20. In other words there is great deception in this world. Satan and his demons will go to any length to deceive people away from Gods Word.

Thus we have here an opposition of this angel in Daniel 10, in an attempt to prevent him from getting to Daniel. This angel is one 'sent.' He is one under authority of another higher up in the chain of command, yet he is a powerful angel in that he contends with demons on the national level.

The word for prince is 'saariym', which is plural (the 'iym' suffix) and is a reference to the demon powers that apply constant pressure and deception of national leadership. This implies that in every country on planet earth there are demons assigned to those nations for the purpose of interfering in their national affairs (see also the reference to the prince of Greece in the 20th verse, and the reference to Michael as prince over the people of the nation of Israel, Dan. 12:1). We know that demons try to prevent Gods Word from getting to people, either by prevention of by diluting its content, etc. Or by superimposing some other belief in its place (religion, anti-religion, technology philosophies, other philosophies, etc.). Note that this means that all these anti-God beliefs are of demon origin. They (demons) also rally opposition against Gods people and the Jewish peoples. So there must be a lot of demon activity throughout the Middle Eastern nations these days! In every other nation on earth as well.

Michael is herein identified as the relief angel who went to relieve this angel so he could go to Daniel. Michael is said to be 'one' of the 'chief princes'. He is also said to he the guardian of the nation of Israel. Once relieved this angel came to Daniel with the information he requested - the explanation of what is to happen to his people in the future.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
