Dan. 11:38-39

Lesson # Dan. 11:38-39
Study Material - Dan. 11:38-39

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Dan. 11:38-39

38 'But instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones, and treasures. 39 'And he will take action against the strongest of fortresses with the help of a foreign god; he will give great honor to those who acknowledge him, and he will cause them to rule over the many, and will parcel out land for a price.

In the previous verse, 'god of his fathers', and now in the current verse 'god whom his fathers did not know' helps to further place and identify this dictator. The phrase 'god of our fathers' is generally a Jewish phrase and a reference to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is not a reference to the god of Ishmael. whom Islam looks to, or say they do. Allah is out of the picture. But this is rather a Jewish dictator.

The 'god his fathers did not know', is the ruler of the Western power. This is the future western power which will rise out of ten nations or kingdoms originating from the Rome of long ago.

This dictator is not as great as he would like to think. He relishes his power, which by the way is great, but he can not stand without having the support of the King of the West, to whom he will pay a high price in order to retain his alliance or protection.

These days we in the USA give huge amounts of money in aid to Israel. When these coming future days finally arrive, that practice will obviously change. The mention of 'he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones, and treasures' is a reference to the payment of protection monies to the king of the west 'the god of fortresses' in the form of money and commodities. This also implies a trade agreement of sorts. The word for fortresses is 'maauziym' which refers to protectors, guardians of an estate. He is in short paying for protection, and also involved in trade or commerce with that same partnership alliance.

This alliance does not stop at merely protection or commerce, but goes further. Verse 39, he will build up a system of strong defenses. But against whom? The context of the entire chapter suggests these fortresses or defense mechanisms are established to protect the central nation, which we identify today as Israel, from the aggressions from the south and from the north.

Both south and north will react to these actions later in the chapter, with their invasion. This invasion will be the final battle of the Age of Israel, or Armageddon.

The reference to the 'foreign god' is a reference to the same god identified earlier, 'the god that his fathers did not know', the King of the West.

There is also one more item to note. This dictator thinks of himself as some type of supreme god like character. This is in contrast to the form of the word for God which Daniel used earlier, 'El Elyon', which is a reference to the Supreme or Most High. Recall that this is Satan's wish, to be like the most high, 'El Elyon' which is used in Isaiah. So this whole affair is Satan driven. From heaven where Satan had certain accesses to, Satan drove his policies of rebellion against God. On earth, when Satan is evicted by force from heaven by Michael at the mid point of the Tribulation, then Satan drives his policies of satanic influence on mankind through these world leaders (as well as through the influence of peoples who are negative toward God) at first to bring on a utopia, and finally, when that utopia fails, to destroy mankind altogether.

To those who follow the policies of this dictator, there will be promises of glory, position, power, and wealth of course. To those who oppose him, there will be swift persecution.

The parceling out of the land and the references to ruling over many, indicates that this dictator will seize lands or properties, auction them off to the highest bidder and over these conquests, there will be placed, or appointed, those who align themselves with him.

If you haven't already guessed as to whom these conquests are against, it is the territories under the protection of the south and or the north.

Again if this were to all happen today (this is only for use as an example - of course we would all be gone long before now - the rapture you know), then you would see the seizure of the Palestinian territories, their disbursal or sale to others, and new rulers put in their place, and so forth. Reasonable assumptions would be that the alliances of the south, the Arab states, would retaliate against this policy. We will identify the King of the South, and North in tomorrow's study.

Note, thus far the kings of the south and north are not harmed dramatically as yet, but they will attack the dictator because of these policies just described. The arrogant indiscretions the dictator has been taking against them and their interests.

The last note for these verses. Where does all this wealth that the dictator uses to pay the King of the West, come from? And is this the reason that there is an alliance between the King of the west and this Jewish dictator? The passage implies that were it not for the payments, there would be no alliance. The god of the west is honored by means of these payments. The payments come from somewhere, so we know that this dictator is ruler over an area of vast wealth, and it is certainly in great quantities and desired by all.

Again, if this were today, we would presume that perhaps oil in vast quantities is discovered in the area and there is a contest for ownership and/or its sale. More oil in Israel would be a threat to the oil sales and revenues of the various Arab countries. Today Israel does not have much in the way of vast wealth, so something will have to change before these final days of conflict will occur. One would think that oil would be discovered under the areas that the Palestinians of today currently reside. If the dictator were to move in on those resources, then that would be a certain recipe for conflict. But again that is only speculation. However, it does give us an idea as to what kinds of things could be going on in that future time. Wealth is involved, abuse of authority (seizing wealth) is involved. It aids the West, and does not make the South or North very happy. Note that there is not an alliance between the South and North.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
