Deuteronomy 6:1-3

Lesson # Deut. 6:1-3
Study Material - Deut. 6:1-3

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Deut. 6:1-3

1 Now these are the commandments [mitsvah] , the statutes [choq] , and the judgments [mishpat] , which the LORD [Yahovah] your God [elohiym] commanded [tsavah] to teach [lamad] you, that ye might do [asah] them in the land [erets] whither ye go [abar] to possess [yarash] it:
2 That thou mightest fear [yare] the LORD [Yahovah] thy God [elohiym] , to keep [shamar] all his statutes [chuqqah] and his commandments [mitsvah] , which I command [tsavah] thee, thou, and thy son [ben] , and thy son's [ben] son [ben] , all the days [yowm] of thy life [chay] ; and that thy days [yowm] may be prolonged [arak] .
3 Hear [shama] therefore, O Israel [Yisrael] , and observe [shamar] to do [asah] it; that it may be well [yatab] with thee, and that ye may increase [rabah] mightily [maod] , as the LORD [Yahovah] God [elohiym] of thy fathers [ab] hath promised [dabar] thee, in the land [erets] that floweth [zuwb] with milk [chalab] and honey [dabash] . KJV-Interlinear

Deut. 6:1-3

1 'Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the LORD your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, 2 so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. NAS

Now if you have read the last two lessons closely, then you have seen that inside these two 'greatest' commands which God has given mankind, and as Jesus has just stated in Matt.. 22:37-40 (our last two lessons), then you should now understand that we have three fundamental responsibilities in life.

We have covered them in detail before, but here they are all summarized inside these two commands. Commands which we will get to in Deut. 6:4.

Our first and foremost responsibility is to God. Moses was given the words of God, from God, to write down so that all generations of mankind will have the opportunity to learn them and consequently to have a great life. Christianity is not the dull and boring life that is often portrayed in the public view. It is in fact the release from the dull and captive life that everyone who rejects God, are bound and chained to. They just do not know it, or better put, they just reject that idea.

Our first responsibility is to God. Our second responsibility is to our self, and our third responsibility is to others.

In the first we are bound to God. We are indebted to Him. We owe Him at the very least a hearing, to hear what He has to say about life and truth, and specifically our own life. In the second responsibility, once we learn and understand that life without God will be total chaos in the Lake of Fire, then it is in our best interest to take the course that will give us a life with God, both now in time, and especially in eternity.

Life does not end at our death. Our soul continues to live. If life ended at death, if we ceased to exist, then we would have nothing to live for and crime, immorality, tyranny, atrocities and such would be the order of the day.

The third responsibility we have in life, is to others. We live in the devils world. We owe it to others to help them get Gods Word, and to help them have a better life in whatever way we can. To get Gods Word to people, we help by supporting Bible teaching in whatever form and in whatever manner we are able. To help people have a better life, we have a variety of charity opportunities in which we can direct our support.

But first things first. The commands, judgments, and statutes given to Moses, are for us. And why? To do them!

And to do them where? In the land where we are going over to possess. A land of milk and honey. What is that land? A geographical area on planet earth? No. It is the land of spiritual maturity. That region in the soul where you have learned, understood, applied, and therefore possess Gods word within your soul.

The land of Canaan was representative of spiritual maturity. It is a place where we may go to reside. It is a place where we may have all the things that we did not create for ourselves, but God has provided them since eternity past. Look ahead in the chapter several verses to get an idea of the magnitude of the prosperity that awaits us when we arrive at spiritual maturity.

We are to teach our children. Our children are to teach their children. Each generation stands or fails on its own attitude toward God and His Word.

We are to learn so we will respect God and life in its totality. That is to say, so that we will maintain the proper attitude of positive volition toward God and wanting to learn everything He has to teach us.

The result of all of this? Our days will be prolonged. What does that mean? In this life our days as a spiritually mature believer will be fulfilled and full - not necessarily lengthened in years. In eternity our days will certainly be lengthened so that they will last forever. And we will live with God forever in heaven. As a spiritually mature believer, we will also enjoy the many 'additional' blessings that accompany the mature believer. People who ignore their spiritual life, never grow up, and will miss out on those 'beyond imagination' extra blessings which are reserved for mature believers only, Rev. 1-3.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
