Deuteronomy 6:4

Lesson # Deut. 6:4
Study Material - Deut. 6:4

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Deut. 6:4

4 Hear [shama] , O Israel [Yisrael] : The LORD [Yahovah] our God [elohiym] is one [echad] LORD [Yahovah] : KJV-Interlinear

Deut. 6:4

4 'Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! NAS

The verse, which every Israelite has recited, and still does, since the time of Moses, up until our present day. It is recited twice a day, but all too often without understanding.

The doctrine of the Trinity has existed since Adam's time. When Jesus equated Himself with the Father, a statement of equality which upset the Pharisees, they never questioned the identity of the Father. They did get upset with Jesus calling Himself the Son, however. And they did not get upset with the identity of the Son of God. The Spirit of course was rarely mentioned but the Pharisees were certainly familiar with the Power of the Spirit, since the Spirit on may occasions endued many a prophet in ancient times, with power and various gifts. Samson probably being one of the more notable of judges, was given the strength of the Spirit.

Anyway, we have here a reference to the second person of the Trinity. The person whom we call Jesus Christ. But in ancient times, the Hebrew language called Him by that same name only in a different language. That same name in Hebrew is Joshua Messiah. Joshua is the Hebrew word equivalent of Jesus, and Messiah is the Hebrew word equivalent of Christ.

When we return to our study in Matthew 22:41, we will see Jesus asking the Pharisees, just what they think of the 'Christ.' They are fully aware of the Savior to come, and just who He is. Their problem is in not making the link up with the descendant son of David, and the second person of the Trinity. Those two being the one and same unique person of the universe.

At the end of our current verse in Deuteronomy, we are told that He is 'one.' This is a word for one of a kind, and therefore unique.

The Lord is God. This is very clear. Or, it should be. The Lord is 'unique' is yet another statement which is often thought of as being unique to the nation of Israel, but ......

The nation of Israel which is Gods chosen nation, is a collection of peoples. People make up a nation. However, all Israel is not true Israel, Rom. 9:6. The genetic descendancy from Abraham is not relevant. The spiritual descendancy is relevant however. And, it is from Adam, which includes the entire human race, and did not simply and arbitrarily begin with Abraham.

The spiritual nation of Israel, which is Gods chosen nation, is made up of all believers in the Savior, whom we know as Jesus Christ.

Adam was promised a savior. He was promised a savior from the seed of the woman (man being excluded from this union). This leaves the union to its uniqueness or the virgin pregnancy of Mary. David was promised a son, a descendant in his line who would not only be the savior of all of mankind, but would continue David's dynasty forever. Of course Christ has lived forever. He is God. And His reign has existed since eternity past. But the reference to David gives us a defined human line as it had been defined and designated since the time of Adam, through Noah, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (whose name was changed to Israel) and thereby giving us a true picture of the line of Christ, but also distinguishing His line from all other false gods and beliefs that would come out of history. Islam being the last of the four great false religions in history, claiming their origins from Abraham but declaring it descended through the other son of Abraham, Ishmael, rather then Isaac.

And one more thing. This book, Deuteronomy, is a book of review. Review of what? Everything that the Israelites had already heard and should have known.

Negative volition creates a selective attitude in ones memory and desire to learn and even to acknowledge the facts of truth.

What we all face, and this is certainly not limited to the Jewish people, but to all peoples of planet earth, but what we all face in our lives, is that we need to come to a point in our life where we either acknowledge God and the truth of the realities around us, or we don't acknowledge them. Most people compromise their spiritual lives away. They are either partially interested, or not at all. Very few will actually hunker down and get with a daily Bible study program with the objective of really wanting to grow up spiritually to the maximum.

Certainly everyone has the opportunity of advancing in their spiritual lives, but few will ever answer that call. Not because there are barriers in the world that are against them, but because they just don't want to do it. We all have barriers, but God creates victories over those barriers for those who are truly desirous of advancing in their spiritual life.

People sometimes get upset with the deal they have been dealt in life. And know this, God dealt all of us whatever it is we have. Some do not like being female. They lack respect for their husband or life or whatever it is in life they do not like about their situation. Some men do not like the role they have been dealt. Poor people don't like being poor. Rich people have their problems. Whatever your dissatisfaction is in life (gender, health, economics, IQ, physical ability, etc.), you have to first gain an orientation to God, then you will be able to handle whatever set of circumstances you have in your life.

God probably placed you in the position you are in, in order to put you to the test that best fits your weakness. God does not do anything arbitrarily, or by accident. Recognize your weakness, and defeat it, by your obedience to Gods Word, not by your retaliation against your situation.

The biggest stumbling block for anyone is Jesus Christ. Who He is, and what He has done for us. Our reaction to Christ has dramatic implications for our future - heaven or hell. But then in all that we do spiritually or not, our response to Gods tests for us have equally dramatic repercussions for us in our life here on earth. We can fight our situation with self pity, anger, being argumentative, and so forth, and what will that accomplish?

Or, we can accept our role in life, study Gods Word, advance in our spiritual life and enjoy a tremendous life. What is the better choice?

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
