Deuteronomy 6:12-15

Lesson # Deut. 6:12-15
Study Material - Deut. 6:12-15

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Deut. 6:12-15

12 Then beware [shamar] lest thou forget [shakach] the LORD [Yahovah] , which brought thee forth [yatsa] out of the land [erets] of Egypt [Mitsrayim] , from the house [bayith] of bondage [ebed] .
13 Thou shalt fear [yare] the LORD [Yahovah] thy God [elohiym] , and serve [abad] him, and shalt swear [shaba] by his name [shem] .
14 Ye shall not go [yalak] after [achar] other [acher] gods [elohiym] , of the gods [elohiym] of the people [am] which are round about [cabiyb] you;
15 (For the LORD [Yahovah] thy God [elohiym] is a jealous [qanna] God [el] among [qereb] you) lest the anger [aph] of the LORD [Yahovah] thy God [elohiym] be kindled [charah] against thee, and destroy [shamad] thee from off the face [paniym] of the earth [adamah] . KJV-Interlinear

Deut. 6:12-15

12 then watch yourself, lest you forget the LORD who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 13 You shall fear only the LORD your God; and you shall worship Him, and swear by His name. 14 You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, 15 for the LORD your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth. NAS

Representations galore in this passage. Egypt represents the land of slavery to sin and death. That is where we all live in our life without God. Whether as an unbeliever where the risk to ones eternal life is very great, or as a believer who just happens to be negative toward God, and that carries with it the risk of intense discipline as well as loss of eternal blessings, which are blessings that are over and above the fundamental blessings that all believers will receive in eternity.

There is only one philosophy which we should respect - that of God. No other philosophy or system of belief is valid. Gods truth covers all that is real, and all that is reality. Any other system of thought offers various levels of compromise into the foundation of truth which is from God. To believe in anything other than God, means that God has left something out of His truth and that you have found something else which is equal to or better than that which God has to offer.

People often try to include things in life by justifying that they 'harm no one' or that they aren't 'that big of a deal' or that we should have the right to 'choose for ourselves' the course which we wish to take in life. And God allows all of these ideas and more. Even though they are wrong and will lead the person into destruction.

Therefore the warning, 'Follow no other gods.' This simply means that we are to follow nothing that is contrary to Gods Word. By incorporating little things, little compromises, little rationales into our life or into society, then we open the door wide for more and more and more compromises. The little innocent things become greater infractions against God and sooner or later society will deteriorate into lawlessness and atrocities as we have witnessed in Afghanistan, in Iraq, in various African nations and so forth. Sodom and Gomorrah are our two Biblical examples of just how far innocent indiscretions can deteriorate a society.

In today's society, liberalism is a tremendous threat in politics and in the function of government. The fourth in the systems of establishment which God has established to preserve a nation. Homosexuality is a tremendous threat in the third and second forms of establishment - family and marriage. And of course the front line defense against all these attacks is our volition. When we learn Bible doctrine then we avoid getting gobbled up in these false philosophies. When we teach our children, then we preserve future generations from their influence. How do we fight them? By incorporating a daily study program of the Bible into our lives.

Finally when people resist Gods Word, then they face their own chosen destruction, which God will execute against them, 'He will wipe you off the face of the earth.' And that should speak for itself.

God has given us all a role in life. Whether we like our role or not, we are stuck with it. God gave each of us the best role for our individual lives, for the best outcome of our life. Again, whether or not we agree with that is irrelevant. Facts are facts and you cannot change them. We are all individuals, and will have the opportunity to exercise that individuality in eternity. We may be stuck here on earth in some form of subordinate role, but no matter. Jesus Christ was thoroughly humiliated. More than any of us will ever be humiliated. He was stripped of his clothes and hung on a cross for all to see. He received the jeers and snide remarks of the masses, that is until the sky became totally dark for those three hours, in the middle of the afternoon.

There is no situation in life in which we can be more humiliated than was Christ.

So, suck up your pride (confess it - remember that fellowship is the key to our spiritual life), and get with a program that is designed for you as an individual. A program that will make you greater than you can possibly imagine in eternity, without your pursuing any form of greatness (based on pride). Review from time to time the first three chapters of Revelation and see and understand the implications of being positive verses negative, on your eternal state. Then believe it, and then do it.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
