Eccl. 1:1-2

Lesson # Eccl. 1:1-2
Study Material - Eccl. 1:1-2

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 1:1-2

1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 'Vanity of vanities,' says the Preacher, 'Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.'

The Preacher, 'Koheleth', penitent soul, or one gathered, one that had rambled and gone astray like a lost sheep, but was now reduced, gathered in from his wanderings, gathered home to his duty.

Solomon does not identify himself by name but by title and from reference to his father, David, to whom there was honor. Solomon had been a spiritually mature believer, but in his tremendous prosperity, he faded from Bible study and chased his women, his foreign women. He sought to please them and his own indulgences rather than God and his spiritual needs. So he began a trip down vanity lane and found that no matter what he did in life, it always came to nothing. Thus Ecclesiastes, the book of human viewpoint.

Remember there are two opinions in life - Gods opinion, which we have in the Bible, and mans opinion or better known as the worlds opinion. The opinion from under the sun, from under creation, even Satan's opinion.

Gods opinion will be enhanced in Song of Solomon, a love story to be sure, divine viewpoint Some people even get embarrassed by the sexual connotations presented, however, we won't pull any punches when we get to that book. But here in Ecclesiastes, we have the opinion which is by far the most popular and prevalent in the world today and throughout history.

The Preacher, Solomon, teaches us from his experiences, experiences from life, from academics, from the street, in all walks of society. He has regathered himself, collected himself from the wayward walk he took in straying from Bible doctrine. It is in the feminine. He was disobedient to his wanderings and has returned humbled, and obedient, and many times the wiser.

When we have a place to fit in life, a place designed by God, then it is the best place for us to be. Outside that pre-designed role there is heartache, frustration, failure, lack of meaning, lack of fulfillment, lack of satisfaction. However, inside that role there is the opposite. There is satisfaction, meaning, fulfillment, etc.

Solomon was King, but here he presents himself not as king because he was outside that role to which God appointed him. He was appointed King by God. We are all appointed to our present positions by God. We can either live in those positions, inside that sphere of power God designed for us, fellowship, and prosper along with our spiritual growth, or we can get it in our heads that there is something better out there. We can do things better ourselves. We do not need God. We can hustle in life. We can get our education, credentials, titles, walk in the right circles, see the right people, be in the right places. We , through our own initiative, and resources, and wit can gain all that we want in life. What in the world would we need God for anyway?

But, you see, human viewpoint is a lie. It is a deception, and we who believe it are the fools. What is everything we accomplish ourselves? Vanity, 'hebel', emptiness, transitory, unsatisfactory. That is what life without God really is, empty and unsatisfying. You may coast along in your prosperity as Solomon did. You may have talent, a high IQ, a good career, income, property, a vacation every year, a fine home, nice clothes, nice vehicles in the garage, money to spend. But beware. Your prosperity will put you to sleep spiritually. You will be the ones described in Revelation, that God will vomit out because of your apathy toward Bible doctrine.

All, 'kol', everything without exception under creation. All things are vanity, emptiness. No exceptions. There is nothing in life that will provide satisfaction or fulfillment in life. Our souls are living creations from God. They require nourishment, spiritual nourishment in order to thrive. Take away the nourishment and the soul slips away in slow starvation. Human viewpoint is empty sustenance, empty calories, no vitamins. Kind of like standing in the door of a restaurant and breathing in the aroma's, but never eating the food. Human viewpoint offers the smell only, never the real thing.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
