Eccl. 1:3-8

Lesson # Eccl. 1:3-8
Study Material - Eccl. 1:3-8

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 1:3-8

3 What advantage does man have in all his work Which he does under the sun? 4 A generation goes and a generation comes, But the earth remains forever. 5 Also, the sun rises and the sun sets; And hastening to its place it rises there again. 6 Blowing toward the south, Then turning toward the north, The wind continues swirling along; And on its circular courses the wind returns. 7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again. 8 All things are wearisome; Man is not able to tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing.

What are the advantages of the two opinions? What are the disadvantages? Is there a clear victor, or just six of one or a half dozen of another. Are the two opinions merely the same thing looked at from different perspectives? What are the two opinions? Forgot so quickly? Gods word is the first opinion. Mans opinion is the second. Sometimes we call mans opinion the opinion of the world, sometimes we call it Satan's opinion. Any way you look at it, there is God on the one hand, and everything else on the other. And those 'everything else's' are vanity, empty, nothing, unfulfilling. They do not amount to anything.

So what is the advantage of those everything else's? Or better still, what are the disadvantages?

We are under the sun, first of all. We are a part of creation, not outside it. God is outside creation. God was not created along with all other creation. He first created the angels and there was happiness within that realm. Then God created the universe, and the angels witnessed this tremendous event. But at some point after the universe came into being, Lucifer drifted away from God, and into his own selfishness. We were not present at the creation of the angelic realm. We were not present at the creation of the universe. We did not see the fall of Lucifer, the destruction of the earth, or its restoration in those six days.

Generations come and generations go. We, each one of us, live in a single generation. We do not last for several generations, or even all generations. We have a birth and a death. The last generation, or even several generations ago are no longer with us. Where are they? Dead! Gone! Decayed! They no longer walk on the earth interacting in their daily lives as they once did. We were not at the beginning and we cannot live past our own generation despite all the new medical technologies and vitamins that we have in our present day. Even that first ten generations, from Adam clear up to Noah and even later, lived up to 900 years. We are lucky to get into the 70's or 80's on average.

We have but a short time to live on this earth. Why would we waste it on false philosophies. Philosophies that have absolutely no basis in fact. Yet huge populations follow false religions, or false teachings which offer nothing. The earth remains, even after we are gone. The earth was here when we came on to the scene, and it will be here when we leave. When we leave, is the key statement because we will certainly leave sooner or later. In that we have no choice. None of us will live to see our 200th birthday. Unless of course you happen to be an unbeliever right now and remain so, and the rapture occurs, and you are left behind, and then you believe in Christ and become saved, and you survive the Tribulation where over 3/4's of the worlds population will not survive, and you see Christ's return at the second advent, and remain alive when the millennium begins. Then, you will live to be 200. Actually you will live far past 200. You will live until the end of the millennium, for 1000 years plus whatever age you happen to be when I began this long paragraph.

All things continue today as they have since the earth began. The sun rises and sets. It returns to where it began. The wind blows and circles the globe, and returns to where it originated just to do it all over again. The rivers flow to the sea. The water evaporates or moves into springs. The springs flow, the rain falls, and the rivers flow back into the sea again and again. The world has been set into a motion of repetition. It always ends up right where it began. No matter what course these things take. We try to go north, then south, then east. We try all directions on the compass, but mans eye is never satisfied. Mans senses are never fulfilled. There will always be discontent or the longing for something more, something missed. The pursuit of happiness continues with first this method, then that. One get rich scheme after another, one boy friend / girlfriend after another, one social club after another, one job after another. We never get what we want because it is always someone else's fault. There is always an excuse as to why things did not work out. So we try again and again, but we end up in the same place over and over again without realizing it.

Sure we may have more money, or less perhaps. The things we have or don't have will change, but our soul, the real us is the key to our life, and it has diminished gradually throughout our life of repetition and false pursuits. We concentrate on the needs of our bodies and desires, forgetting that when we die (and we will die), our soul and spirit are the only things that will survive us. Our bodies, our needs from this life, all remain behind and fade out permanently.

So we follow nature in the repetitiveness of our lives, ending up really, with nothing of permanent value. And we keep on doing the same things over and over again. Never learning, or correcting our mistakes.

Even nature teaches us that there must be something more to life. More than just the same endless things we see over and over again. Hummm! Wonder what that alternative could be?

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
