Ecclesiastes 4:1-3

Lesson # Eccl. 4:1-3
Study Material - Eccl. 4:1-3

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 4:1-3

1 Then I looked again at all the acts of oppression which were being done under the sun. And behold I saw the tears of the oppressed and that they had no one to comfort them; and on the side of their oppressors was power, but they had no one to comfort them. 2 So I congratulated the dead who are already dead more than the living who are still living. 3 But better off than both of them is the one who has never existed, who has never seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.

The persecutions of a miserable life are very real. The oppressed in the world are many. We saw in Eccl. 3, that God will judge the righteous and the wicked for every time, every event, for every deed in their lives. There is nothing that anyone can do, and hope to escape the judgment of God. Nothing is hidden from God. Nothing can be concealed from God.

In this world there are two spheres in which we may choose to live. Choice being the key and operative word in everyone's life. We either choose positively for God, or we do not. By ignoring God, by rejecting God, by pursuing a substitute for God, we have in effect chosen against God. So there is no excuse for anyone in this world. The choice is always made.

Those who choose against God will live their lives in accordance with these three verses. They will be the oppressed in life. Both the rich and the poor will suffer because they have rejected God in their life. Some suffer more (the poor, the disadvantaged, the fooled). Some suffer less (it appears), but they suffer none the less (the rich, the highly placed). All have rejected God and therefore they live in the jungle of the world. No spiritual life, therefore no spiritual sphere of protection surrounding them (fellowship) as they live their daily lives.

Suffering comes in all sorts of situations. Abusive marriages, poverty, excess debt, employment instability, health instability, false promises of philosophies and religions which deceive their followers, unfair judges, unfair social situations, ostracism, bias, prejudice, hate, fear, jealousy, the list is long. We see the results of problems in the world in the news everyday. Another suicide murderer bomber, abusive governments, politicians with ambiguous words, children being taken advantage of by trusted priests. There is no end to the trials that the world can throw at people.

To whom can they turn? Both the oppressed and the oppressor have no one to whom they may turn. They are under the rules that run the jungle. God gave them just what they deserve. The poor who have rejected God suffer greatly, and the well placed who have rejected God are never satisfied. Neither of these groups have anyone they can call for help.

So Solomon congratulates the dead. Their suffering is over (assuming that they have believed in Christ. The suffering of unbelievers will increase infinitely and forever). The dead have nothing that can bother them anymore. No more debt. No more social heartaches. No more religious lies. No more public opinion to rule over their lives. They have moved on into an eternal state where there is no more sorrow, no more pain, no more death. Their agony of life is over, though they have screwed up their entire life and have lost tremendous blessings in eternity, they are still out from under the pressures of this world. If you are going to reject God, then you are indeed better off dead. But that is not the preferred choice for ones destiny.

Those who have never been born, those who have never come into existence are far better off than even the unbelievers. Believers are better off dead because they are in heaven and their sorrows are over. But the unbelievers who have obviously rejected God, would have been better off if they had never come into existence. Better to not have existed than to live in the lake of fire in extreme torment forever and ever.

So just when does a person become a person? Man and woman come together in sex and perpetuate biological life. At the moment of birth God breathes into the infant 'neshamah', the spark or the breath of life. All life comes from God, and to God all life returns. Whether for heaven or hell, that determination is the sole decision of God. At birth human life is imputed into the soul of the baby and the baby comes alive. We see the first breath of the child and we cut the cord of biological dependence from the mother. If you have never witnessed the birth of a baby, I hope you have that opportunity one day. I saw everyone of my children come into this world, and have been given the opportunity of cutting that cord on one occasion. It truly is a miracle of life seeing that first breath of the baby. Then come the diapers and that is another story.

So who has it best in all of existence. Those who have never existed, will never know life, so their loss is irrelevant since they have never come to life. Those who have ben born and have rejected God will die to even greater torments in the lake of fire. Their life is very short on this earth when compared to all of eternity. Those who have received Christ as savior but followed that faith with apathy toward God will suffer in this life, and at death their suffering will end. They will however lose eternal blessings exceeding their imaginations. The best of positions is that obtained by positive believers. Those who seek out Gods wisdom and advance to spiritual maturity. Theirs is peace in this life, and great reward in eternity beyond their dreams, beyond imaginations.

To who can anyone turn? If you are negative, out of fellowship and otherwise a wicked person in life, then you have no one to which you can turn. God does not hear the prayers of those who are out of fellowship. God does not hear the prayers of unbelievers, period, except for their prayer of salvation expression of faith in Christ. Apart from that single thought, unbelievers are SOL so to speak. Negative believers are just going to have a miserable life then they will go into eternity when they die, and that is when they will learn of their stupid decisions of life, or rather their decisions of life will become a reality to them. 'Oh, this Bible stuff really was a good thing!' But too late to change after death.

To be a believer in Christ, to be positive, to be in fellowship, to advance to spiritual maturity is the very best choice that any person can make. Your investment is small (pennies per share) and your profits are great (infinite growth value - guaranteed no less). Who would pass up an opportunity like this? Only the naive, only the fools of life. Choose for God in your life and benefit. Choose against God and suffer. There is always a choice.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
